If we had some idea of budget, that will help. Are you looking for a compact or DSLR??

A compact will be smaller than a DLSR for instance. The Canon Powershot G9 has had great reviews on here as has the Canon 400D. Both around your budget. I have a Panasonis FZ7, which is a bridge camera, halfway between the two. I think I may stand corrected on this.

This isn`t a sales pitch, but I find mine relatively easy to use. Markus has the model up from mine. We both have had stunning results. I think mine can be had for under £200 now.

Remember it isn`t the amount you spend, its how you use it. The thought "All the gear, no idea" springs to mind.

I`m sure the others that frequent this area will have their input. :thumb:

Be careful with a compact as there is shutter lag and if you are going to be shooting at the ring this is definitely not what you want...by the time you've seen the car in the viewfinder/screen and pressed the shutter the car will be gone if its traavelling at any sort of speed. Get yourself an entry level Canon or Nikon DSLR, a half decent zoom (70/80-200) and a 1.4x teleconverter to give you a bit of extra reach at the ring whilst not breaking the bank. Practise shooting at your nearest dual carriageway/motorway and you'll get an idea of what is required from you and your gear. Good luck.

Some good advice there from Frenchie. I am quite lucky as where I live there are regular trackday meets, so I get plenty of practice. :thumb:
