View Full Version : Marring? +Doc+ 14 January 2008, 17:19 Post clay marring...What does it look like? Tim Bomford 14 January 2008, 20:49 Basically marks on the paint in the direction you've clayed. If I can dig out a pic or a link I will;) Its easily done but easily rectified 53WRX 14 January 2008, 20:56 To a greater or lesser extent. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o220/rosscoe63/dechollly1.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h126/olly22n/DSC01356.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h126/olly22n/DSC01357.jpg Lube, keeping it warm and constant folding is the name of the game. Also an agressive clay like sonus grey can cause marring which is why unless you are correcting I would stick to a sonus green or a megs kit. +Doc+ 14 January 2008, 21:15 To a greater or lesser extent. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o220/rosscoe63/dechollly1.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h126/olly22n/DSC01356.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h126/olly22n/DSC01357.jpg Lube, keeping it warm and constant folding is the name of the game. Ok thanks, that rules one thing out :) Tim Bomford 14 January 2008, 21:39 Good pics 53 WRX, so you dont have marring...bad swirls? Car wash? +Doc+ 15 January 2008, 02:47 I think its either some kind of contamination or overspray of some kind. Bit baffled tbh Its only visable in some lights when you look along the panel, mainly on the roof, some on the bonnet. I tried Poorboys SS2 which seemed to do the trick to a degree, but in the sunlight yesterday i could still see some evidence of it. One thing the poorboys did do is reduce the swirls consideraby :) Polished Bliss 15 January 2008, 09:57 Can you get any pics of the problem, or is it too subtle to capture on camera? :) +Doc+ 15 January 2008, 12:23 Can you get any pics of the problem, or is it too subtle to capture on camera? :) I will try, its very subtle and can only be seen in some angles when light reflects (eg. full sunshine) I dont think I can even make it out under fluro lights but will double check tonight. +Doc+ 20 January 2008, 14:17 Poorboys SSR2 is shifting it but very slowly and with lots of elbow grease. Im a bit dubious to go to SSR3 as I dont have a machine. Is there anything hand polish friendly that I can test out? Im quite sure its overspray of some kind. Tried to get photos but it isnt really showing anything. Polished Bliss 21 January 2008, 12:18 Sure an aggressive clay wouldn't work better? We've had to resort to very aggressive clays on numerous occasions in order to remove various types of overspray contamination... airborne fence paints and roof paints included! A better hand polish than SS2 in terms of greater cut and yet still 100% safe to work by hand is Menzerna Intensive Polish, applied using the white side of a German Pad. :) |
