Need some advice. I own a red Honda Fit/Jazz but despite looking after the paintwork using either Meguiars or Auto Glym products, at least twice per year, I have noticed that the roof has some pink spots.

Although I had heard that red paint was susceptible to this, I have never had a red car before and maybe I am missing something in the process.

I live in Cyprus, which has 11months of sun and at least 6 months of above 30 degree heat and two months in the high 30s.

Is there anything I can do to bring back the red colour?

I have looked at the products I have available -

Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, which seems to be a very light polish.
Auto Glym Paint Renovator - a bit stronger
Auto Glym Ultra Deep Shine
Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection
Meguiars Medium Cut Cleaner
Meguiars Gold Class Wax.

I would usually use the Super Resin Polish or Paint Renovator, then the Meguiars Gold Class Wax. The rest of the car paint looks nice and deep, just the roof is the problem. Any suggestions?

One more problem is with the plastic headlamps. They have become faded with a 1 cm line of what look light very light scratches across them, like a worm. I have noticed a lot of other Honda Fits with the same problem, and this is maybe why the later models now have glass headlamps. On one of them my mechanic decided that he could fix by using polish which has made the whole unit look faded. Anything that can fix this?

Once red starts going pink you it will keep going pink. It needs a really good compound polish, something like G3 will do the trick but it will eventually fade back to pink especially in cyprus.

farecla G3. Use it at work is a compound. Its white and rather think in consistency.

I used this on my old red corolla it did work for a while but did go back to pink.

I would steer clear of G3 and use something more subtle like the Menzerna range of products. Good consistant correction is achievable via this route.

Pink is cool :D Although a Honda isn't :D

:lol1: Pink is just not me - it does not coordinate well with my overall look. :)

Honda is okay for a runabout, but use this for the weekends, when it is not in pieces

any ideas on the faded/scratched plastic headlights? these look worse than the pink paint.

Menzerna 106FA works great on plastic headlight covers when worked by dual action machines and polishing pads; you can normally expect around 95% correction, and any hazing should be full corrected. Working by hand, you can get similar results with Menzerna Intensive Polish applied using the white side of a German Pad, but it takes a lot more effort!

As for the paint, the solution is to correct it properly using decent polishes (I favour Menzerna polishes, which work well by hand or machine) and then make sure you apply wax or sealant protection much more often; every 6-8 weeks would be ideal. Pinking on red paintis caused by oxidation; seal the paint from the atmosphere and you can virtually eliminate this effect, but as I said, you will need to top the protection up much more often. :)
