Hi guys

Bit of a random post really. Just wanted to say that I took my first step to getting my motorised two wheel licence today by passing my theory test. Really surprised I passed as i only learnt 3 chapters of the theory book.:nono: Some bloody dodgy questions though to do with tram speed limits and enviromentally friendly trams:wonder: . any hoo just wanted to share my news. hope to be on 2 wheels by end of march.

Any advice on first Bike. it might sound crazy but i was thinking of a 3 yr old fireblade. Flame suit on!:thumb:

Hello and congrats, if you are younger than 21 years ( all guys usually say yes ), you will be restricted to 33 bhp for 2 years.Don't get 3 points in first year as you will kiss goodbye to your licence. If you are older you can do DAS ( Direct Access test ) and will be allowed on a full power bike like the Blade you mentioned. I started on a scooter ( i was sweet 16 then ), after i was using a Suzuki 125cc trailbike ( 17 years old ) and after moved to a 1991 CBR600FM ( red/white ) with a restrictor fitted. Trust me a Fireblade is waaayyyy to powerfull for 99% of riders and arguably the most user friendly litre bike.
Doing an advanced riding course, is a very good idea before jumping on a Blade. There is alot of new to riding bikes out to choose from. A Honda CBF 500 is a good bike to get ecustomed with first. Suzuki GS500 but beware of the paint and rusting frame after some time. Or go down the trailbike route as i did, i bought a 1995 M reg Cagiva Elefant 750cc Lucky Explorer ( Duke Pantah engine ), and the engine was used in racing ( during late 70's onwards ) so is very reliable. Honda Transalp 650cc & 700cc, Honda Africa twin 750cc ( although slower than mine ). The bike will go as fast you want it to go and by that i mean some of the bikes demand huge respect ( Fireblade is a perfect example ).
Motorbikes are very enjoyable at all speeds and need 100% concerntration all of the time. Buying a bike is your choice not mine. It's only the Italian bikes and the Timbucktoo makes that are not as reliable ( figures really ) as the Japanese although you won't run a mile from the Italians. Have a look at MotorCycleNews home - the biggest motorcycling community in the UK - MCN (http://www.motorcyclenews.com) or Bikez.com - Online motorcycle catalogue describing more than 10.000 bikes and 150 brands. (http://www.bikez.com) for reviews and sale ad's and all that. You will have a blast on a bike believe me.

Nathan.

Thanks for the advice Nathan, it is food for thought. I am 31 so I am going to do the direct access hopefully in about 2 months time. due to work reasons.
Bike choice I am going to think about carefully. I would love a blade but I do realise it is a beast of a machine to tame. Going to wait to pass my test then get all the intelligence gathered on a possible bike after that. again many thanks

How about a CBR600 RR, great bikes by all accounts.
