I've been wanting to get my car detailed by someone in the near future to remove some surface marks on my paintwork, but i've recently been hearing good things about this polisher (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polishing-machine/meguiars-dual-action-polisher-g220/prod_409.html), and with a proffessional detail that is going to cost £165 this seems like a good idea to purchase. I've never even had a go at machine polishing but i've heard that this is quite simple and pretty safe to use, would anyone on here consider doing this themselves even with never having any expearience at machine polishing before ?

Yes for the price of the detail you could buy a machine polisher but your paying for experience and the finished article.

There are several steps to take just to have the paintwork ready for machine polishing. Once at the polishing stage its then advisable to have a reading on the thickness of the paint (PTG) and work out the least aggressive polish\pad combo to correct the paint ;)

To top this off you then need to protect the paint with a LSP so the £165 is quite cheap to be fair :wonder:

To answer the question "yes" you could purchase the new G220 and tackle this yourself but venture over to A world for detailers... (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk) and get an idea of the correct process involved :thumb:

But you still have the polish, pads and machine for the next time. Why not get an old bonet from the scrap yard and practise on that first.

Correct, practice makes sense first but this would be after the decision whether you want to buy the polisher or not. Im only letting you know the extras involved and not just the polishing unit.

Cheers guys i've been on detailing world and thats what has made me want to get into detailing my car, but like you say i'm scared of cocking it up, i was thinking of taking my car to this guy (http://www.hotwaxxx.co.uk/) in the new year as it's fairly close to where i work, just need to get a scuff on the bumper sorted out and a ding on the drivers door. It's £215 not £165 (thats for a small car), still not bad though.
