View Full Version : Donuts
TurboAndy 16 December 2007, 23:54 I have a MY01 JDM Sti and carnt do donuts in it.
You all most get it to do when it seams to try and correct it self.:wonder:
Is this because of the centre diff and does not have a DCCD?
Not that im bothered but would like to know why.
davey21wagon 17 December 2007, 01:17 i know my car wont its a my00 wagon cause of 50/50 split
i think u need the dccd to put it to the back to do the donuts :wonder:
but then again im no expert..............
The rookie 17 December 2007, 04:28 You ideally need a rear biased torque split and/or an open diff, so the DCCD has both (with the wheel back to the open option - it doesn't affect the torque split static)) whereas the non DCCD STi like yours has 50/50 and a very sticky diff (20kg/m on yours, 12Kg/m on earlier cars versus about 4Kg/m on WRX/UK turbo cars).

mark ward 17 December 2007, 23:34 Im running 339bhp and 308 torque
More than enough i should imagine dont know why then mate ???
J200WRX 19 December 2007, 18:10 i can do it with mine and its nearly standard lol. 2nd gear gets you spinning round so fast you could be sick.
astraboy 19 December 2007, 19:00 Try raising the rear tyre pressures to reduce the contact patch and promote oversteer.
Also, try doing it in the wet and if possible, do some launches on grass before you go for it to grease up the tyres and make things easier.
If you really get stuck try doing them on grass, you're guaranteed to go round then.
astraboy.
172sport 20 December 2007, 18:35 Handbrake, :-)
The rookie 22 December 2007, 18:42 Its your very stiff VC centre diff and 50/50 split, there isn't much you can do to get around that I'm afraid....

My MY2000 5 door goes round well on the handbrake and continues to rotate on the power. I've not tried donuts as I'm only using the technique to turn 180 deg but it certainly feels as if it will go further. There's been a few occasions when I've rotated a little further than intended (say 210 deg) and had to use a lot of opposite lock.

Hi mate,
What's the centre diff weight on an 05 WRX and would a less 'stiff' diff :lol1: make it easier to doughnut..?
My car seems very rear biased when giving it some from the off/slow speed..:)
As you're from Warwick and seem to know these things you don't work for PD by any chance..?:norty:

A more open/less stiff diff makes donuts easier, yes.....
I don't work for PD (PD do work for me but that's another story) but I am in a similar line of work and have a few ex work colleagues who work there....

subaruturbo_18 18 January 2008, 14:50 i once dropped some people off at a festival, the drop off point was a big field, empty with alot of people standing behind a big metal fence, i was dead in the centre so thought id try it, first time i have ever done a donut in my turbo 2000. it sort of worked, i went round a few times was quite hard to control but was very fun and got quite a few shocked/amazed faces :eek2: :thumb:
would like to try again on in a big open space, possibly tarmac with money for new tyres :lol1:
Daz_WRX 12 June 2008, 10:44 I may be wrong but surely it helps if you have a LSD rear diff?
My P1 didnt have DCCD yet still donut'd very well.....
(ps what models would have lsd as standard?, would an sti v3?)

mervil 24 June 2008, 19:41  The first one's my old one in my old Army camp in Germany :D Was good fun :thumb:
magicgreg 09 July 2008, 17:42 The failed attempt clips there were class, the first one was just embarrassing and very stupid as there were family cars driving around where they were tyring to perform the donuts and the second clip was the most aimless thing I have seen.
Quality!!
I don't think I could put my scooby through the punishment of a donut.
