personal bike experinece only runs as far as motox just really local green lane stuff .

KTM's are notoriously lairy, but have got a lot tamer in recent years. My KTM enduro scares the pants off people who are used to their jap machines, so I wouldn't describe it as confidence inspiring but if you've got off road experience and can handle a bike ok then you'll have a real hoot :D.
KTM's road going machines are a lot less focussed than the racing machines but will still have heavier controls, more peaky engines and much sharper handling than their jap equivalents.

I bought a KTM660 SMC a couple of years ago when they first came out and what a tool it was...I loved every second of it,but unfortunatley i had to sell, coz i was either going to kill myself or lose my licence.....If i had some spare cash i'd have another at a drop of a hat......Alan...http://i15.tinypic.com/6wpotu9.jpg

In had one for my first bike the 640 sm, if memory serves me right the model before the one you are looking at and it was amazing, so i imagine the new 690 will be even better, I have now moved on to the 950 sm
