After recent discussion on what to do meet wise in Southern, a very valid idea was raised, and that is to have a big national meet like a lot of the other car clubs do.

The questions are:

- would you be willing to pay a small fee for such an event?

- what sort of format would you like to see?

- and would some of the regional organisers like to get involved in setting this up?

Regards, Alex

Interested - yes.
Small fee - sounds ok to me, depending on what the format is.
Organisation - although I've organised a couple of events last year my schedule this year is a little tight but I'll keep an eye on the board for if there is any way I can help.
:D :D :D

Great idea, willing to pay etc etc. :)

Would this be a joint SIDC thing or a Scoobynet/independantly arranged meet?

Good idea Alex,
Yeah i would not mind paying for such an event, format wise ?
bowling, karting, something track orientated, skid pan, off roading, paintball any one of these or anything else combined with a BBQ. Ideas??

I organised a few meets last year so if i can be of any help let me know.

Just to add my two pennies worth.

To make it a true national event no matter what it involves should consider the distances required to travel by individuals. So a venue held down south is no good for people from Scotland and vice versa.

Fair point! So draw a line joining the tip of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall, and Anglesey to Dover, and where they cross must be pretty central :) Hmm, actually that would probably be somewhere around the North Sea...

Ok, so perhaps somewhere like Alton Towers (like last year's trip) as this is a bit North of Birmingham, has excellent access from everywhere (M6, M5, M40, A14, M54, ...), gives us all something to do during the day, and then we can find a nearby place to stay/camp overnight. :) I'd be up for it...

Good idea or big lame one? ;)

Cheers
Richard

Sounds like a good idear, it would have to be central to the country probley in the midlands, unless you do one for the North & one for the South.

All,

Alton Towers sounds good, kinda central.

And yes, I'll check with the SIDC first to make sure it doesnt clash with their big one and isn't too close to it.. plus of the course the AGM.

However, I'm not going to post is ScoobyNet National meet, just a.n.other national meet that I would a lot of people to come to.

Watch this space.

Alex

Chaps,

Pete C mentioned at the AGM that the SIDC are planning exactly this kind of event this year... (I'm sure that's what he said ;) )

Perhaps Pete could comment???

The SIDC is planning a National Scoby event this summer, which won't be exclusively for SIDC members but will be open to all enthusiasts. We are hoping to have collaboration from Scoobynet on a few things too.
Any help would be appreciated though, I'll let you all know shortly. :)

Hi Alex

Matt is correct and its John Baldock (new SIDC social events co-ordinator) that's working on this.

Donington was our preferred venue, purely because someone worked out that 70%+ of the membership are within 2.5 hours drive, but the final details are up to John and his team of ROs.

Definitley up for some kind of national event be it SIDC or ScoobyNet. I'd quite like to do both as I think the "flavour" of the two events would be quite different? :)

Dying to do something after the ScoobyNet mud racing event was cancelled last year.

Don't mind contributing either...

PS What about moving this to General to get a wider range of responses??

I think Dono would be great because you would combine peeps that want to take their cars on the track with peeps that want to watch peeps taking their cars on the track with peeps that like to show up and just look at each other's cars.......

Simply put, you could have something for everyone (and Donno has a HUGE car park!!!)

Donnington gets my vote.

Also there is

Whilton Mill
Which has 2 x Karting tracks, offroad Karts, Paintballing etc

Stoneleigh (near Coventry)NAC
where they hold the Town and Country festival, loads of car clubs turn up to that one.

Cheers

Been going to the RS days for the last few years, the best been the National held at Donno as Silverstone wouldn't allow passengers. The one held at Castle Coombe is always good aswell.

If its going to be a bigg event, which I think it should, an overnighter would be good.

Beer, tents and singing ging-gang-gooli round a fire :D

Billing Aquadrome in Northants is a fave venue for a lot of car clubs (see Jap Performance Extravaganza)

There's lots to do, plus there are more than adequate camping facilities, easy access from M1 etc.
