View Full Version : Service Park
lowaragrinder 03 December 2007, 14:27  Went from Crychan on Saturday to service park - What a waste of time!! Left in plenty of time, Knew how much time was needed to get there in time etc. but due to the stupid amount of traffic lights, traffic etc in the middle of Swansea missed all the top 15 cars altogether. Which numb nuts decided to move the service from felindre. I think we need to start something off to get it moved back there. The SA1 park was more or less a building site, the car park looked as if it was a special stage - it was a soup of mud & bricks. Other than that had a good one - if a bit short due to illness. Resolven & crychan - was due to go to brechfa but took ill. Got to stages the night before & camped in back of van. Got to crychan at 5pm on Friday - not a sole there! Had a short spin on track & around car parks!!
Steve_PPP 03 December 2007, 14:54 i wasn't impressed with the service park either - took a long time to get in compared to felindre, seemed very squashed as well. I got the impression that there were less stands/retailers as well due to limited space. And whats with the car park being a 15 minute walk away (i know there were buses, but this wasn't advertised and loads of people were just walking it). I guess it went there as the rally organisers got a load of cash from the SA1 development for bring all the people/business into the area....
Move it back to Felindre next time!
tommy_555 03 December 2007, 17:51 as far as i'm aware they are building on Felindre.......so that's out of the question in the future.
WR 1mposter 03 December 2007, 19:07  SA1 was a total shambles 15 minutes to get in from the m4 and another 15 to get out, the parking was a disgrace 5/10 minutes for a bus, or a 10 minute walk:mad:
Move it back to Felindre, as for building on there did'nt see anything going on !
Butler205 03 December 2007, 20:46 I LMAO at the "Event Bar" at service. Must have been the smallest trailer I have ever seen with 2 blokes foldered up inside it.. Did a nice drop of Stella though.
Nick McRae 03 December 2007, 23:51 Not once when I was at service did I feel that I was at a World Championship event. I didn't go in day, only at night and it was one fo the most miserable palces I've ever been too at night. and Satruday night! There was hardly anything open! Bring back Felindre!
speedking 04 December 2007, 18:48 Agree totally about the bus. We went Crychan to SA1, arrived at 19:45. Massive queue, only just made it in for first car into service bay. Who thought to have only one person on the entrance desk at the busiest time of day?
Could do with some more lights, the whole place was really gloomy. The poor new impreza outside the Subaru hostility tent was completely hidden in the dark (insert your own joke here).
Fair play to Petter coming out and signing caps etc. for a good few minutes. That's one of the great things, getting close to the stars.
Another :thumb::thumb: to Travis Pastrana of Subaru Rally Team USA dishing out posters and sticker sheets, made my son's day. Look at some of the Google images  Not enough other freebies around.
Lee wilkins 05 December 2007, 22:11 Got a car parking ticket. £60 to £100 fine...more money for the council. this is why they moved it i'm sure. Service park also tried to guide me out of the park...must of walked around the wrong way or something.
Steve_PPP 05 December 2007, 23:19 where did you park? in the VIP car park without being a VIP? or just on the roadside somewhere?
Distinguished Gentleman 06 December 2007, 10:18 We saw a scoob and a couple of other vehicles beeing nicked on shakedown morning for parking in the shuttle bus turning bay right outside the entrance to the service park. IMHO they deserved it. I bet it they had smug grins on their faces when they parked a few feet from the door.

You're absolutely right Lee! With your sixty quid the council can now afford to build six new schools and two hospitals! Are you regretting not parking in the free (albeit crap) car park? :Suspiciou

I think that you will find that the Felindre has now been sold. In one of the bits of blurb re the SA1 site it said "if the sun shines, you will see that it is like Monte Carlo" or words to that effect. Having been to MC, I can only put that crap comment down to drugs.
We had trouble with one of the "security" bods who wasn't prepared to let us across to the BRC cars etc. However, a flash of a 2 year old guest pass (for another rally!)did the job;)

Wet Eric 11 December 2007, 20:59 I can only agree with the comments on the service park, not world class, not even club class, on my way back to the car saw the powerboat display, they were giving out tons of freebies even managed to speak to one of the drivers (ex- Welsh F1 Motorcycle Champion), must of been the only guy who didn't complain about the wet conditions. Tried to get some shots of the rally boats with my phone with no joy, did anyone get some ??
