Nik (mechanical novice) fivetide 22 November 2007, 14:03 No idea how it is held on. Just bolted in? If so just do up the bolts. If changing from stock to race can though think about a dynojet session or you'll probably be running lean. 5t. Pudders69 22 November 2007, 14:35 just be a bolt on i suspect, 5 min job. p.s. can help to run the bike for a minute to loosen the link pipe. Pud nik52wrx 22 November 2007, 21:26 Some 5 min jobs turn into weekend jobs for me! Thanks for the tip about the link pipe :thumb: Nik. just be a bolt on i suspect, 5 min job. p.s. can help to run the bike for a minute to loosen the link pipe. Pud Sbradley 22 November 2007, 22:34 Wear oven gloves when you take the can off after that 5 minute run! What CBR is it? Is it injected or carbs, and are you fitting a road or race can? If it's injected then your friendly dealer may be able to tweak the mapping for you (I know you can on Suzukis) to clean up the fuelling if necessary. Otherwise you will almost certainly need a dynojet kit and some setup time. You can do it yourself but it's hard... If it's just a road can then in reality your injection will probably sort itself out well enough until you find the time to get it tweaked. But a race can may make it as flat as a fart and give you lovely big holes in your power curve until you bet it sorted. Mind you, it'll feel faster because the power will come in harder after the huge flat spots... SB nik52wrx 22 November 2007, 23:32 Basically i bought the bike (cbr600 fx 1999) last month and it had a race can fitted but the dealer gave me the original as well. My insurance states no mods so i want to swap it back. Out of interest does everyone declare after market cans? Strangely theres nothing on the can to say its not for road use :norty: Nik. SB Sbradley 23 November 2007, 01:03 You may actually find that the bike runs better with the standard can... Depends on how well the previous owner set everything up. I declare aftermarket cans because I'm Mr Squeaky Clean with insurance. Plus I don't want to give the *******s an excuse to avoid paying, of course. But I know that not everyone does. Nik, I used to have a standard can on mine, swapped it for an aprovic end can. I declared it to the insurance co, and it didnt change the premiun at all. If you fancy keeping the can it has, it might be worth "asking" them if it would make a difference........ or not. FWIW - I will declare EVERYTHING o the bike, bloody insurance companies would use any reason not to pay out.... Pudders69 23 November 2007, 09:49 just bolting on a can will make F all difference to performance in terms of mph , insurance co's don't seem to mind in my experience but like others say its worth asking. now turbo's, thats a different matter!!!! nik52wrx 24 November 2007, 17:16 Thanks for the advice, warmed her up a little and whipped the can off no problems at all so now back to standard. The can i have removed is a race can and therefore not road legal so presumably i couldn't have declared this to the insurance company anyway. Nik. jjones 24 November 2007, 19:10 if the bike has been dynojetted to suit the race can it will now run badly. if the can wasn't too loud i would leave it. |
