They're a stronger replacement for the plastic hangers fitted as standard. The plastic hangers flex, reducing the effect of the antiroll bar. Also, the bushes in these are firmer, again increasing efficiency of the bar. It's a standard mod to sharpen up the handling, which you can combine with an uprated antiroll bar as well if you want. Don't know if your "odd noise now and then" is due to that however.
