ive bought quite a bit from HK, never been a problem, never got stung with Tax either
my last purchase was a Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro for £69.99
Cost in this rip off state 149.99

URGalaxy are one of the good ones, along with a few others whose names escape me at the moment

I've had to pay tax on both imported lenses, £55 IIRC on a £400 Sigma.
Mind you, as I offset them against tax, which I can't do if I haven't paid VAT or duty, in the long run's it's cheaper for me. Hurt at the time though!

I ordered a lens from Hong Kong on a "no tax" auction and they simply refunded the amount I got charged after I faxed a copy of the Customs doc to them.
They did the mark the value of the item down hugely though, so I suppose you have to be careful if Customs actually open it up and see a £500 lens in the package and the shipping note has it as £80 (which is what they had marked mine as, luckily they didn't open - but I have heard of people getting caught out like this).
