View Full Version : All sat-nav POI's for Rally GB from SWRT
swrtmgmt 09 November 2007, 16:03 Dear all
For those attending or planning to attend Rally GB, I just wanted to advise you that the Subaru World Rally Team will shortly (next week) be launching a completely free, downloadable POI (Point Of Interest) file for both TomTom users and all other sat nav users with all relevant points included. The key thing is that this file can simply be dropped onto your sat-nav and will then allow you to see the following:
- Start location of all stages
- Finish location of all stages
- Rally HQ
- Swansea service park (both public and VIP entrances)
- Public car parks (although this is not via a set of co-ordinates but a more general point on a map, so it may not point to the actual location, but WILL allow you to get close enough to locate, or follow signs, to the actual car park)
It will also include instructions as to how to load these into your satnav unit for those who are not familiar with the units. Then it is simple a case of finding the POI you wish to go and letting the unit do the rest.
In addition, anyone with a TT 720 or 920, the recent units that allow you to change the icon, will have the option to replace the arrow with a 2007 Subaru WRC car.
What it cannot do is advise which local or access roads are open or closed, but at least you have an accurate position of the start and finish locations (derived from the books sent to SWRT for our own recce purposes) and thus can find yourself with the ability to find the location more easily than following it on a map.
Good luck, and if anyone who uses these has any feedback, please do let us know. This is a test run for a full introduction in 2008 for all European rallies (and possibly further afield) so if we can make it better, we will.
Keep an eye out next week on the SWRT site for the information.
Thanks
SWRT

Scoobychick 09 November 2007, 17:56 You sir, are a diamond! What a great idea :notworthy :luxhello: :thumb:
I have lots of rally stages already in my Tom Tom but every little bit of extra info we can get is always really appreciated. I'm liking the idea of POI's for foreign rounds of the WRC too
Cheers

nice :D
scoobie elf 20 November 2007, 23:07 I've downloaded the file and installed it onto my tomtom one and when I look at the POI, I seem to have some of the car parks and stages missing. Has anyone else got this problem?

Ignore my last post as it was me not using my tomtom correctly. All the car parks and stage starts and finishes are there and with my Vpower locations safely installed, I'm already for next week.
Smatt 21 November 2007, 16:15 Fiar play to all concerned.
I have sat there with Garmin mapsource doing this myself.
Then when I am there insert the exact position for following years.
Tissy 21 November 2007, 16:21 I have this all converted as a Garmin GPX file if anyone needs it also.
phil 21 November 2007, 16:29 Yes Please Mate

Hi - can you advise what a GPX file is how it is different to the version we have on SWRT.com? Would be very interested to know so if this is something we need to do in future we will - but need a Garmin user who can advise of the benefits. Thanks for your help.

Should these also work with autoroute? I can import the pushpins but they have no labels.
Nick.

For some reason Andy when i tried to import the CSV into my Garmin system it didn't like it. I am running a Garmin based product called nRoute. Although predominatly a laptop based GPS system, this is what i have installed on the CarPc.
The actual file format is a .GDB (presumably Garmin Data Base ?) which i guess is Garmins equivalent to TomToms .OV2 files. Its basically a proprietary file format containing POIs.
If anyone has a mobile Garmin system, they may be able to advice which is easier to import into the device, CSV or GDB.
On your downloads, the .CSV labelled ZIP file appears to contain the same files as the Garmin ZIP file, i was expecting them to be different.
I have hosted my Garmin ZIP file HERE (http://www.wrx-carpc.co.uk/downloads/subaru_gb_garmin.zip) which contains the new .GDB file also. I too would be intersted in people reporting back to see if this easier to import.
Hope this helps,
Steve

Sorry about that - we had a few small issues that needed to be corrected so the new version will be uploaded, all being well, later today. Thanks.

Were there errors in the locations? Do i need to re-download the new version and update my tomtom?
swrtmgmt 26 November 2007, 14:30 No major errors as such - and if you have downloaded version 1 it will be fine. There was the publication of a phone number that should not have been there so we had to make some changes.
Steve_PPP 26 November 2007, 17:32 cool, cheers :thumb:
superdan 26 November 2007, 19:42 i have downloaded version 1 onto my tom tom and some of the stages and service park is missing is this fixed on version 2 off swrt ??

Hi mate. I thought I had the same problem but they are all on there. When you are searching try typing the letter of the stage you are looking for and it will find the ones that you think are missing.
