Default Waterless Washing Kit

I was watching one of the shopping channels the other night (don't ask!) and some bloke was flogging a waterless washing kit.

Apparently you just sprayed a liquid onto the car and buffed it off.

Then lo and behold was watching Dragons Den on Tuesday and there were two different guys flogging a similar product which they claimed they had the sole rights for. Anyhoo they were given short shrift from the Dragons.

Am I missing something here but if you just spray a liquid onto the bodywork and then start rubbing with a dry cloth, won't you just rub the grit into the paintwork and scratch it?

Anybody else seen this and would it work??

We've got a Range Rover Vogue booked in for 3 days of machining work in January to correct the results of a "waterless wash". In short, avoid at all costs, as you cannot wash a dirty car safely without water - you always end up marring the paint or worse.

Waterless wash, not waterless polish.

The very thought of a waterless wash sends shivers down my spine.

Waterless wash - isn't this basically what detailing spray is...? I've got some of the Jeffs stuff for when the car is "relatively" clean just to give it a wipe over and it works a treat.

Are we saying this is something different...?

Same thing, but there is a fine line between okay quick details to remove very light coverings of dust and fingerprints (say for example after a short drive to s show or meet) and full on waterless washing where you attempt to remove a week or two's worth of crud with just quick detailer and towels. The latter will knacker your paint very quickly!

Agreed !!

OK was just wondering if I was mis-understanding, and obviously it looks like I'm not.

Tis good stuff though that Jeffs Acrylic Gloss, as you say as long as it's only used for "maintenance" not formal cleaning.

I actually saw this on Youtube about 2 months ago. Its was making me cringe. The way the guy sprays it on a really dirty car and wipes off with a normal paper towel, just because the sun is shining and the scratches wont be visible at distance on camera they are fooling people. Id love to see the close up to them results.

Now I know Polished Bliss's secret! Not sure about Clarke's baseball cap.
