My engine check light doesn't work so I've had to do some exploration:
It turns out that, whilst most of the lights on the dash are bulbs, the six warning lights at the bottom of the rev counter are LEDs. See here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/sicker.than.sickle.cell.anemia/images/wrx_dash_circuit.jpg).
As you can see, my engine check light's melted (or something) so looks like a trip to Maplin's in order.
By the sound of the posts I searched through earlier, UK models are different and use bulbs.
