What tires do you recommend using for 2000 R6? got 010 brigdestones on at the mo? Never changed tires before-fairly new to bikes.

Im not a racer but do like a bit of speed(MPH THAT IS) and done one track day would like to do another next yr.

Is it better and cheaper to get them for internet(what sites do you recommend) and take them to bike shop for fitting or is it cheaper to get them for bike shop?

Take back wheel off myself?:wonder:

my 2 pennies

i use pirelli supercorsas or metzeler racetecs {same tyre basically , just rebadged }
and run my loose wheels into universal tyres , as they allways beat everyone else local 2 me on price .

Supercorsas! Jesus - you must either have one hell of a tyre budget or do very low mileage...

I'm using Diablo Corsa III on my GSX-R and I'm impressed.

Another vote for Universal though :thumb:

Last set of Supercorsa Pros I used lasted me 40 minutes and were then totally f*cked.

OK, I was testing a GSX-R 1000 Superstock bike but nonetheless they're not exactly hard wearing...

I'd stick to regular Diablo Corsa III if I were you - triple compound so the middle is harder then the sides which are harder than the shoulders so you get the optimum grip/longevity. I've now decked the pegs on my 750 with them, so they ain't short of grip :)

why not try the 014's, only got 1400 miles owt a rear but other have had more.

Diablo Corsa's on right now, very good road tyre which should do well enough at the track.

Had a few pairs of Avon Vipers, good tyres but imho the diablos are better.

Friend can't get enough of Michelin Pilot Powers 2CT'S, not heard a bad thing about em.

So imho 2ct's or Diablo Corsa's are easily more than a newbie will need and both will make the 010's look well like touring tyres.

oh yeah, always been under the impression that part worn race tyres are:

a. passed there best
b. can't get enough heat in em on't road to out perform fast road tyres.

...anyone????

Makes me chuckle bikers thinking they need really soft sticky tyres for the road (ex racers excluded). If he is new to bikes and doesn't know much about tyres surely corsa3 are way over the top and completely unnecessary, I reckon the stradas are probably more than good enough for the majority of people.

Actually Bakerman is right. Didn't really read the first post properly until now - sorry.

Probably best to stick with the OEM tyre as the best compromise for grip, stability and longevity until you've racked up some more miles and experience.

The 010 is a good tyre, as is the 014 which seems to be the standard fitment on most sportsbikes these days.

put pilot road 2 ct on the gixxer thou, 99% of people who claim they need anything stickier are deluding themselves. the diablos i had lasted 2000 miles so am hoping for more mileage on these. not noticed any less grip so far and i am a heavy handed and ham fisted.

What the difference between the 010 and 014?
Read about tires with triple compound not sure which ones but how long will they last compared to 010/014?

The 014 is the later model but both appear to still be current. They're both single compound tyres and they genuinely are pretty good.

The triple compounds like the Corsa 3s should last longer as the centre section is harder than the rest. And in normal use it's the centre that takes the kicking from acceleration, which is what really wears them out.

But whether they are worth the extra money is a debateable point...

well the racetecs are on the 04/05 r1 and me 03 track bike , i run used supercorsas / racetecs on the front of the fightered r1 as there pukka for stoppies , and i run absolutly anything on the rear of the fighter {within reason ,ie - 010 / 208 standard rubber etc } as they normally get smoked up and killed off after a while . he did mention track days so it was just a passing comment , and i agree the diablo corsers are a great tyre and probo more than he will ever need .

look at it this way ,,,, if you bought a set of supercorsas to do a track day , went and done that track day , then went home and come the following weekend wanted to go out for a sunday blast would you go for another set of tyres ? {no chance}
i recently got a set of part worns of a pal {whose m8 has perelli sponsorship to run in powerbike / mro } that had only done 14 laps of qualify / setup round brands indy , used the front on the road for a few weekends and its as good as new :thumb: . some people dont like part worns and i can understand why { why put 80 squids worth of second hand rubber on a 8 grand superbike and risk binning it } if there is decent second hand rubber about , thats come of a well set up bike i would use it on 1 of my bikes , but if its ripped 2 fcuk of a poorly set up bike with loads of cold tear / squared off / ripped or heavy wear i wouldnt bother with it .
ya pays ya money and ya takes ya choice .

How do you lot scrub your tires in-use a bit of sand paper lightly over tires or just take it easy for a while and let it happen naturally?

Thanks for comments guys-tires seem a bit of a mine field but speakin to you lot has helped.

i love the part worn tyres i get and iv had no conerns with them being passed there best .
maybe if your going for a lap record then you would notice .

unlike slick tyres road tyres dont suffer fron heat cycle deteriation as far as i can make out .:Suspiciou

scrub them in slowly be careful they do bite when new
a racer told me he used a hacksaw blade over the tread but im not surethats a good idea .

bring on the part worns 1#:thumb:

Just take it really, really easy for the first few miles then gradually allow lean angles to increase. You don't want to be giving it loads for at least 50 miles.

Sandpaper doesn't work - it's not just the release compound that you're getting off (that makes the tyre slippery) you need to get some heat into it as well which makes the rubber far grippier, even when it's cooled down. I do't know why, it's just the way it is...
