filtering past the usual mile of stationary traffic this morning. 2 kids on mopeds in front
girl decides to move in behind car, as cars are coming towards us. I presume she locked up, as the roads were greasy, and she went straight into the car, bounced, and landed in the middle of the road.
Plenty of people to help, though nobody thought to lift the bike off her leg till I parked up.
typical moped rider, no protective gear except a cheap helmet. She was unconcious for a while which was worrying.
Fortunataly we live near an army medical training barracks, and a car full of army docs were stuck in the traffic.
The army are really useful in these situations (of which there's been a few on that road), even if they're not doctors. they're trained to react calmly and get things organised.
anyway, she came round and started complaining about her leg, which was a good sign. the docs moved her onto the grass, so I set off again. slowly!

young lad in the car she hit knew her, and phoned her mum - "Stacy crashed her 'ped again", so I guess she won't be let out again!
pointless post really, but it shakes you up a bit doesn't it?

Hopefully that experience will stand her in good stead and she'll take more care in future! All part of the learning experience .... hopefully, as in this caes, the learning is minor rather than a big off.

Strensall Road. ??

that's the one
awful road
I usually cycle down and have 3 choices - use the footpath and risk getting nivvccked (I got threatened by a by a copper on there once), stay in the traffic for 20 minutes +, or tackle the oncoming traffic head-on

worse riding home in winter - dark unlit de-resticted road, with drivers thinking about the tea rather than the cyclist they've just missed.

saw a lot of diesel on the road yesterday and today - some muppet probably filled up to the brim at the world's most expensive garage (Strensall!), then merily sloshed it all over the road for miles. Which is nice!

Had a near miss myself last week, taking a corner (between Haxby and Strensall) a bit too quick. fortunately I'd read a thread about counter-steering, and it works! Saved by Scoobynet...
