Just noticed that a bird has s**t on my bonnet but it was not your normal run of the mill bird s**t looks like it came from an albatros:eek2: . Anyway gave the car a good wash with Meguirs gold class then used a bit of t-cut on the area where the pile was and then polished with meguirs. Problem is there is still a mark where it was looks like its eaten into the paint. Must have been a very ill bird. Any ideas on how to get rid of the mark??:confused:

have you tried clay barring the area? it may be that the area will need to be wet sanded and then polished up with a machine polisher. bird etchings are sometimes impossible to remove even with these severe steps!

Jeepers! Bird crap is always acidic, but in some cases mentally so. In such cases, etching occurs quickly and to significant depth, no matter what protection you have on the car (although having decent protection on it in the first place can help to limit the damage). Being a sub-surface defect, polishing is always required to correct etching. However, as Matt says, when it's very deep, sometimes wetsanding is required first to cut back the paint enough to fully remove the mark. In some cases, the etching may be too deep to be fully removed. In the above extreme example, nothing short of a respray is going to fully repair the damage, although wetsanding would improve it a lot. :)
