We've been to the Grand designs show at the NEC today (Friday)

saw Autodoor UK's stand, they can o a sectional door std colour, fitted with electrics etc and emergency disable key (as we have no second entry door to the garage) and two remote,
should be £1800

show price he would do it at £1350.

if we want the golden oak woodgrain effect its another £250 extra.

is that a good price or is that a normal price for a electric roller door?

We got two (roller) doors in white with electrics, disable keys and remote controls for £2100. Dunno if you get substantial discount for two though. We did get quotes for up to £2700.00 per door

Sorry to hijack Salsa King, if Nate is around. I have two Cardale canopy doors. Both are brand spanking new (new build) so would rather not replace. Are the Autoglide motors any good?

I got Thermoglide style roller door fitted few weeks back. It is in white though, not woodgrain. Got many quotes between £1300-£1800 fitted. Got a number for a local guy who fitted one for £800 cash after a bit of haggling. I have two remotes, full electric, but no emergency system (as I can get into garage through house). Where about are you SK?? As you were at Grand designs are you far from B'ham??

Phil,

firstly, what thickness is the sectional door, I install 20mm and 45mm thick (very strong). I do the 20mm with motor and 2 remotes for about the same ..... I think they may have inflated the costs to get people on the 'show special' prices ;)

I would (as Chip has mentioned), get a quote on a German door, Hormann being one, Novoferm being another (my choice, and if you contact them, they can get someone local to give you a price ..... Tell them Nathan sent you :thumb: ) .

Roller doors are good, and have their place in the market, ie don't take up much room in your garage, but a sectional would be my choice :thumb:

MattW,

I would give the Autoglides a miss, the tape drive that they use, does not have a long life expectancy, saying that, if you are moving, and automated doors are going to sell the property, do it ;) .

I personally would change the doors for retractables at least.

Hope this helps you all out :thumb:

I would just like to add, ALL garage door manufacturers have had 2 price increases this year, 7% each time, because of the rocketing price of steel. So don't expect a figure that low now.

Thanks Nate - being brand new I'd rather not change them. May investigate the possibility of converting them.

Phil,

They are Roller doors :thumb:

They look exactly the same as I install, but the company I use is ALUROLL - 0800 977 89 75 (http://www.Aluroll.co.uk) , I notice the Ansa controls, 77mm curtain lathes, and for the pic, they have chosen to show the curtain a different colour to the guides and curtain box (something I like to do for customers, as it looks better than all in one colour, and doesn't cost any extra)

For a view of a sectional Go Here (http://www.garador.co.uk/PDF/sectional.pdf) (it is a PDF) and go to page 17 , that is a sectional. :thumb:

for info my inlaws put a horman sectional door in their garage last week, were charged just over a grand, for an insulated one. my advice was to forget being insulated as the garage is not attatched to the house but they seem hellbent on skiing (spending kids inheritance..) the quality of door is fantastic, no locks on outside and bright light on pully motor. they got two keys as well. the only problem is that it is fitted to a thirty odd year old marley garage which has subsided, so there is a large gap at one side of about two inches! imho the guy surveying it should have pointed this out as it looks daft.
the other point to ask yourself is do you need much wall space as sectional and retractable doors' rails take up quite a bit of space hence the reason i went for canopy doors on my double garage a couple of years ago. they are hormann again and were 850 for both fitted (they are big enough to get a range rover through!!

hope this helps

You will get a Range Rover through a 7x7 Canopy garage door ;)

And the price sounds about right.

Here are a few I have done ;)

Phil,

It really is down to what you are going to use the garage for, lots of options, but you want to make the right one ;)

This is the type of door I would want to fit, Nate could you recommend anyone in the Northwest area who could give me a quote.

What could I expect as a ball-park figure for a 7' x 6'4'' retractable door? (seems to be a none-standard size:confused: )

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

7064 is a standard size , if you use a Hormann, Garador, Cardale or Henderson.

My preference out of the above manufacturers would be Hormann (Garador are owned by Hormann, but are dead slow at the moment  ).

Take a gander in your local Yellow Pages, and find a quote on a 7074 Vertical ribbed Hormann retractable door, and if you are changing the door, I would opt for a steel frame also :thumb:

10 years Guarantee on anything German, Cardale/Henderson, you will get 2 years

Hope this helps :thumb:

Its a Henderson Timber door that I have at the mo, but is well past its best.

I'll check the Yellow Pages as you suggest.
