As we are drawing to a close for the 2007 season, with only a couple of events left before Winter, I am thinking about next year, and following on from Rob's 2007 thread, I thought I would be "first one in" with this:

Has anyone competed on the Isle of Man?

I have been looking at the Manx Motor Club website, and really fancy a trip:

Home - Manx Motor Racing Club (http://www.manxmotorracing.com/)

I think they run a "night" hillclimb, which would be most interesting.

What are your plans for 2008?

Richard

This looks like it could be fun:

Richard

My plans for 2008 are to do some sprints and hill climbs in an RA with a decent engine, using another supplier/sponsor backing me who doesn’t post on the Scooby net.

I have a firm agenda to

1, not get dragged into 500BHP per ton arguments.
2, complain about who’s beating me….if they do.
3, spend what I can afford plus a bit more (regardless of who has what sized budgets).
4, learn to drive smoother.
5, enter a well run championship.
6, enjoy the ride.

Maybe good advise for others?

Or go fishing!

2008?
1
Learn from 2007
a) Not to take it so seriously
b) Try much harder
c) Get more fun out of it

2
Focus more on being more competative and more radical
500/tonne as the target or the above is not likely let alone possible
Keep it affordable (gross contradiction to above?)

3
Do the same championships as this year in the 911 and remember it is just fun to watch the Harrimans etc fight for everything.

4
Consider more races afield ie Isle of Mann (please note Richard).

5
Go and watch events more and have a good time.

Graham.

ps:JohnS, I understand what you are saying, but the only other section for this is General or Gallery? Expect the Mods will sort it out.
I think Rob and I currupted the Projects sections when our threads went from tech to 'hillclimb reports' as the doing bit gave way to the proof in use.

My plan for 2008 is to have a running car, and then use it!

Myself and a mate are going to give Harewood a try. Neither of us have done anything competitively before, so are in it just for fun and to learn. Hopefully we'll give the Evo's a battle:norty:
Far too many Evo's and not enough Imprezas at Harewood.
If all goes well I'll be looking for a track car for later in the season.:D

The Harewood 'EVO' boys are awsome and a real challenge from what I've seen of them.
Great hillclimb venue.

Take the fight to them in 2008! Pete26 above has a horribly fast EVO in my class and it is such a great car. They are superb, but give them grief!!

:)

John, no offence taken, I think the Motorsports Section might be more "appropriate?

Or does anyone else have a better idea where to place this?

Richard.

Taken from MSA website:

I have spoken to Technical Department at the MSA this morning, and they confirm this rule only applies to cars registered after 31/12/1999.

Great news for my 1995 STi RA :)

Regulation E12.16.7: Exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all production based touring, saloon and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars, manufactured after 31/12/99, from 1st January 2009 and for newly registered championships from 1 January 2008. They may be specified for certain other formulae.

Other new rules can be found here:

The MSA is recognised as the sole governing body of motor sport in Great Britain (http://www.msauk.org/site/wbs/news/ViewNews.asp?NewsOwner=msa&NewsId=4041&BackUrl=NewsOwner%3Dmsa%26chapter%3D262&chapter=262&category=0)

Surprised this was not applied to all cars with Road going/MoT status as per MoT rules. Why have a 1999 date when Cat's are a legal requirment for road cars before this date?

Personally, I think it a good move, but will not be popular with several.

Cats are not a legal requirement for MOT, car just has to pass the relevant emmision requirement.

10 October 2007, 18:06
Take your point John, but it is a rare bird that passes an MoT without a cat when the car was designed with a cat?
I'm discounting tricky MoT stations and alternative maps.

If the car is not road legal, ie a track car, then emmissions are irrelavent imho.
This is simply the MSA having to be inline with the green issues that are forever getting tighter.

I'll be in my WRX, should be about 300bhp. My mate will be in his RA, don't think we'll be competetive for a while.:)
What mods have you got, seemed very flat on corners.
