I dont really frequent these quarters ..... So hi :luxhello:

Today i purchased myself a new monster, a CR500 '96 model. Its got the usual oil leaks & what not, but it goes like nothing else :D :D

Are there any other motocross owners in this part of the forum ?

Its a Ltd edition allegedly so i would be inclined to agree with you. Its a foofin monster. I have had a few 250's in my time & i have an old honda fourtrak quad for farting around on at the house but this thing is just mental ................. :D

Here's mine on it's way home in the back of the Scoob.

It was in a pretty poor state: it had ripped the sprocket off the output shaft(!), snapped it off like a carrot.

Crank was FUBAR so I bought a fully reconditioned crank and rod etc. Awaits the completion of my new bike workshop but I have everything I need to put this baby back on the road. can't wait.

Wow, those things are obscene - I'd love one in the garage!

Are you going to keep the knobblies on it? I manage to rip mine up in no time on my 400 thumper

It is tempting and it will be rebuilt as a CR500 crosser before I sort out some supermoto wheels for it. I'd imagine it will spin up in every gear on the road but it is road registered! Can't wait myself but I have this to finish first:

It's a runner now, just needs all those myriad of little touches to get it done.

Myriad of little touches. Like finding something to fill that gap between the frame rails...

Love it. Nobody does understatement like Screwd. :)

No no. 'Tis done. The clue is in the "it's a runner" comment.

Widget required to make it a goer as opposed to merely a runner: one offset sprocket.

Dunno where I get all the time for this stuff. It really ought to all go up on a website somewhere but Visordown is now a commercial site and I'm less happy just giving it away. Seems my photobuilds are quite popular on the web...

Only time i've seen a CR500 on the road was on the Hastings may day run years ago. The bloke was putting on a show up and down the sea front after everyone parked up, i've never seen another bike wheelie like this thing could from such low revs and low speed. I've always wanted one since but never done anything about it as i'd lose my license in an hour of having it.

love cr500's had a few over the years i do miss that raw power
remember doing southport beach race on 1 in1994 . even with a small rear sprocket some barrell work that thing lifted in every gear and i was not a wheelie king :D

lots of fun but a bit of a b4stard to start until you get hang of it
many frustrating times for me:lol1: anyone who goes on the back is sure to give the rider a bearhug thats what my misses was like .

only got a 2003 cr250 now but never ridden it :)
thanks danny

Hehe, that'll be alot of fun. The last time I went on an open-classer I got the "it's pulling me back so I can't close the throttle" fear. Happy days!!!
