Hi guys

i've been reading all about washing, polishing and waxing and to be honest I now know that I never really had a clue about all this.....:wonder:

Anyway, I've been using the Zymol cleaner wax for a while and nothing else on my cars. Am i doing more harm than good or is it a good all-rounder?

Having two small children means that although I wash the car weekly I havent got the time to spend a full day detailing the car etc but I tend to polish the car every six weeks or so with the cleaner wax. The finish is really great but it doesnt last for long.

Am I safe just using this product or do I need a re-think?

And if so what can I use that will protect the paint, give a good finish and not get me in trouble with the wife for spending hours outside doing the car :)

Hi Dave, there's nowt really wrong with your current routine, but the problem you face is that by using the cleaner wax you are stripping the old way layer every time you top it up... which means no layers are building up (hence why the finish doesn't seem to last long - vicious circle!). A better bet would be to use the cleaner wax every 6 months to cleanse the paint properly, and then in between stick to using a pure wax, the regular coats of which will then accumulate and thus last longer and look better. A decent low cost wax suited to this task would be Poorboy Natty's Paste Wax (£11.95). It's easy on and off, looks really nice, and lasts around 2 months a time, but if you get a good few coats on to start with then durability is greatly extended. Using it would meet your needs and give you better, longer lasting results...

Zymol was my first step away from Autoglym. Great stuff apart from the dust..
