hi guys

just to let you know about a little project me and my friend (mark28) have started

background:

the car was a standard wrx with mods including a vf22 440cc injectors and a fmic mapped to an apexi by paul from zen
although the car ran fine there were a few problems, firstly the engine had done 108000 miles and secondly i wanted more power
so i bought myself a newish engine from worbs

the engine is 2.0 litre turbo block bored out to 2.2 using wiseco pistions, zen rods, ARP bolts, metal head gaskets,acl bearing, fully worked sti4 heads,parrell fuel rails with fpr the list goes on and on

plans

now having the engine installed with lightend fly and uprated clutch which took just over six hours to remove and refit see pics im now at the stage of choosing turbo and injector combination fitting a catch can, air intake, new battery and other ancilleries with the hope to have it up and running and entered into next years scooby shootout

i will keep updating the thread as i make more progress and get some pics up. but here is some to keep you going

What turbo you going for ?

gear box yes i think i will need a ppg set up but ill wait at the mo

as to turbo i havent a clue possibly a md321t but i havent got 1250+vat lying around

also i need to know what injectors to have

I would suggest getting a set of the Lateral Performance modified 550's, either direct or through Paul

will 550 be enough dont wanna max them out

740's mate. 321T is a cracking turbo mate, price is worth it !

i know its worth it just havent got the cash yet 740's arent they a bit large was gonna go 650 or 660

I have 740's running 90% duty (albeit at standard fuel pressure) on my set up, built 2.0 and 321T

but with a walbro and fpr i shouldnt need to go so big

chris we have spoken many time's about this subject, i have given you many options for what you can use/do to get to the power levels you want.

i know im having a md321t but just cant afford it yet but its what injectors i need ill be ready for shoot out but will you???:hjtwofing

The Lateral Modified 550's look like 550's, are as controlable as 550's (which can't be said for the standard 740's) but flow more like 850cc :D

They are more than up to the job

did you bore out an ej20 block with the 92mm bore to a 96mm bore ??

You can't, but you can have them re-linered

Stroker kits also quite often get called 2.2's when they are only a fraction over 2.1 in reality

chris get 740's you can get nismo /apexi ones these days for under £250

but is it not better to have lower injectors at higher duty for better burn rate

no idea, need someone with more knowledge to answer that, but I got 740s to aviod pushing them to hard :)

In my opinion, go for higher fuel pressure and smaller injectors. Higher pressure through the injector gives a better spray imo. Running 90% duty is easily safe enough, leaving 10% for error.

I ran my 740's with a 2 litre fed by a VF28 for 18,000 miles with no problems whatsoever. Idle was great and fuel economy was better than the 440's were. This was with a walbro and SX reg.

I am now using the same 740's but with a 2.5 powered by a GT30R and they are still excellent.

All this tosh about them being too big, won't idle, cant control them blah blah blah.

Been there done that with excellent results too.
With the 2.0L VF28 the car idled perfectly at 850 rpm solid.
Its now doing the same with 2.5 GT30R setup

If you use a decent mapper then he'll be able to get the 740's to do exactly what they need to do.

Yes the Modified 550's are the better injector but they come at a premium.

740's for £250 is an utter bargain. Go for them they'll more than suit your current and future needs.

The 'modified' injectors that Tim is referring to are available through many, LP, Zen, ourselves etc and are used in many high powered cars with no problems.

The donor phase 2 injectors, as required in this case are, would be 440's and are modified to flow approximately 740cc at standard fuel pressure and the flow rate will increase with increased pressure.
The spray pattern is vastly improved over stock, directing the flow to both intake ports and as a result atomisation is improved resulting in a more efficient burn.

Expect to pay around £150 for the conversion which includes ultrasonic cleaning and a 'matched' set in return for your money. Your donor set will more than likely show a disparity in flow which will still be present after the conversion so sets are matched from existing stock.

Are Sti V3 injectors 440cc I can't remember now (yellow top injectors are the ones I have).
I'm told these modded injectors tick over well too.

But you can have the same 'treatment' done to flow and balance the flow rates?

no, last time I checked you couldn't.
