Question

Right gents,

I've got Virgin vouchers burning a hole in my pocket, so I need you to help me decide which PS2 game I need to buy.

On my shortlist at the moment is Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter and Silent Hill 2. Is there anything else out there that's getting rave reviews at the moment? Quite fancy Jak & Daxter 'cos I've not played a decent platformer for ages and supposedly this is pretty good...

Already got GTA3 ('bout 90% complete ) and SSX, so didn't fancy SSX Tricky. Unfortunatly my internet access doesn't let me onto any Gaming related sites so I can't go check 'em out for myself.

Cheers

Jak and Daxter is very good, as is Devil May Cry. DMC looks a bit repetitive tho' and it can be finshed very quickly... Some good stuff coming up soon; dropship, ace combat4, metal gear solid. Depends how long you can wait really...

Silent Hill 2 I reckon. I got for xmas, but haven;t started it yet, as I also got Mummy returns which I've nearly finished.

Looks really good, and also absolutley petrifying!! Got to be good for a laugh!

Devil May Cry is visually impressive and good fun, but I think it may loose its appeal quicker than Max Payne.. (I have DMC already, but want MP).

Jack & Daxter - hmm, I would like to get this, but I couldn't help think Crash Bandicoot whilst playing the demo, the only difference is your fairy is now a small creature like a monkey.. IMHO

SSX Tricky rocks just like the first one only better. All the bits you would change have been done.

Well I went and bought Jak & Daxter last night

Initial impressions are very good - but the game might not last as long as I would have liked given that I've completed 22% already.

But that just could be the easy parts I've done so far

Visually pretty impressive with a fairly strong plot line to follow and some interesting and pretty challenging sub-games. The sort that make you want to try and try again 'cos you nearly got it, not the kind that make you fling the controller down in frustration at the sheer impossibility

Like the various moves the ickle guy pulls off whenever you find a powercell too

Me too, initially J&D goes very quick, I was up in the high 40 percents before I even noticed, am currently on 93% and really struggling to finish the last few bits.

Great game though, had loads of fun with it!!

Devil May Cry is good, although it took me 4.5 hours to finish on normal difficulty, but then you have the normal capcom extras to unlock for each difficulty.

Max Payne I have on the PC, hellishly good fun although (like DMC) very repetitive in game play (run in, bullet time, shoot, repeat).....

Would recommend both though, as they have quite a fair bit of 'I'll have another go just for a laugh' in them.

My missus finished Silent Hill 2 the other day, kept her occupied (and quiet ) for about 13 hours or so. Very atmospheric game and good if you like resident evil type games. Again, there are 5 endings to SH2 and some extras you can pick up along the way, but once you have finished it, the time to complete can be drastically cut (now that you know what you are doing!).

Edit : more SH2 info
