View Full Version : Stoner World Champion
Buckwheat 23 September 2007, 11:43 Would have preferred Rossi to push him a bit further, but not to be with the dodgy weather conditions and tyre confusion in Japan.
Looks like the governing body is moving towards a single tyre solution for next season, that should really close things up.
A job well done for Ducati though, the first non-Japanese winner of the top class since the early seventies. :thumb:
n one 23 September 2007, 11:52 Nice spoiler in the title, thanks. I know it was inevitable he`d be Champion but I was going to watch the race later.
Anyhow, well done Stoner :thumb:
Nido 23 September 2007, 11:55 The possibilty of a one tyre rule is crazy, fair enough in WSB as it's a proddy based series, but prototype racing should not be single tyre. It seems Bridgestone might not even want to do it!
CrisPDuk 23 September 2007, 15:30 Well done Casey:thumb:
How quick was Ant West on that Kawasaki:eek: I've a feeling they're going to be a force to be reckoned with next season

Considering that effectively all Casey had to do was finish it's hardly the biggest spoiler going, and it gives no clue as to what went on in one of the most bizarre races of the season;)
51st state 23 September 2007, 17:16 well done stoner :thumb:
won it through his own talent, look where his team mate was !!!(8th )
the speed of the ducati played a big part in early season tracks, but he then took it to rossi on the shorter tracks :notworthy
don't like the single tyre idea, stops the competition between tyre makers, which can't be good for us road users
brickboy 23 September 2007, 20:25 The single tyre idea could work -- give 'em all Cheng Shins, that willl soon sort the best riders from the rest :D
GROWLER_GRRRR 23 September 2007, 22:52 well done stoner but he isent a match for rossi although his package was excellent this season and he was faultless dont think he made one mistake in all the races .
felt sorry for rossi after he changed bikes , i was wanting him to just keep going
but the riders on slicks were coming thick and fast .
if he was on a ducati or back on the honda it would just be to easy so im glad in a way he is struggling for set up .
all good tv , one make tyre naaaah lets have a tyre war thats what its all about
proto type machines .:brickwall
CrisPDuk 24 September 2007, 13:36 I beg to differ there Growler, I think Stoner is more than a match for Rossi, and will continue to be so:thumb:
On the occasions when they've gone head to head this season, it's been Rossi that blinked first every time. And being out-psyched is a situation he's obviously neither used, to or happy with:)
Bravo2zero_sps 24 September 2007, 13:47 I beg to differ there Growler, I think Stoner is more than a match for Rossi, and will continue to be so:thumb:

Put them both on Hondas and my money would be on Rossi every time.
firstscoobdude 24 September 2007, 17:54 no way on this earth is stoner as good as rossi , there fookin miles apart .
sorry m8 , put em on equal machinery or even something niether have rode before and rossi will win everytime ,,,, rossi is without a doubt the greatest rider to ever throw a leg over any gp bike ,,,, just ask doohan / mamola / roberts - etc etc etc .
im not saying stoner isnt talented , but hes on the quickest bike thats had the best reliability and he has had the most luck this season .
stoner by his own admission isnt riding any harder than he did last year , and where was he last year ? which means the bike / reliability / luck - has helped .
CrisPDuk 24 September 2007, 18:24 But if it's all down to the bike, how come Capirossi (who's been riding the duke for years) has been conspicuous by his absence this year:wonder:
firstscoobdude 24 September 2007, 18:41 a) he just won that race
b) he is getting old
c) he was given the sack ages ago
d)we aint comparing stoner / rossi to caparossi
caparossi has never been consistently fast at all the tracks , and has always seemed to suffer with set up problems , last time he strung some good results together he had baylis as a team m8 helping him out .
different riders and there style of riding suit different bikes
where as rossi has allways been fast no matter what he has thrown his leg over .
last year who was champ ? hayden - you dont think hayden thinks hes the best do you !. he knows it was rossis bad luck that gifted him the title .
me personnally i think every rider on the moto gp grid knows rossi is the best rider , which is part of the reason he beats his oponents before the race has started { gibernau is a prime example } and ask yourself this - where are all the rest of the gp yamahas edwards nooooowhere usually .
im a yamaha man , but i know 4 a fact the duke and hrc honda have got the jump on them this year , bring on next season !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GROWLER_GRRRR 24 September 2007, 21:34 what you need to consider is rossi plays a lets say a tactical game like formula one its tactics ,thats why you see him run off from time to time he knows he hasent got the top speed so he puts the bike up the inside with no intention of making a move just psyco stuff .
burges his team manager is a tactical genius and he rates rossi as good as mick doohan and he was rather good .
the bikes are so good these days its posatively boring at times let ban all the trickery and lets just use the throttle manualy rather than a box of tricks
helping the riders control the bikes .
etier way you look at it every one on that grid is special in some way.
chaz davies keep an eye out for him :thumb: he will be back :Suspiciou
The Rig 24 September 2007, 21:51 its weird, people seem to forget Haydon was champ last yr,wonder how he feels right now
GROWLER_GRRRR 24 September 2007, 22:11 im very surprised he hasent had the sack he aint that good ya all :lol1:

1/ Capirossi only won that race because Rossi, Melandri and Stoner were all determined not to be the one that blinked first, and in the end it cost them all the opportunity to win
2/ Cheeky fecker, he's younger than me:mad:
3/ Technically Capirossi wasn't sacked he was demoted, and he quit as a result
4/ I wasn't comparing Rossi/Stoner to Capirossi, I was just pointing out that there was more to Stoner's results this year than the bike. In exactly the same way as Edwards' results show how good Rossi is:notworthy
5/ Like Rossi, Stoner has always had the ability to be quick on whatever he's riding, the difference between them is Rossi learned a lot earlier how to stay on the things:lol1: In that respect Stoner's style has often reminded me of a certain recently departed rallying legend:(
Ducati got the jump over everyone this season, not just Yamaha. Whether Honda got the jump over anyone this season though (except maybe Team Roberts) is debatable. Personally I believe they missed a golden opportunity this year, without doubt they failed to realise just how much more important corner speeds were going to be this year, and came up with a chassis that couldn't turn in without trying to bin it's rider:freak3:
BTW for the record, I never said Stoner was a better rider than Rossi, only time will tell if he is going to achieve similar legendary status, I personally suspect not.
All I said was that he'd proven himself to be more than a match, both physically and mentally, for Rossi over the course of a season. To my mind he's the first rider in MotoGP to do so, and for that alone he deserves our respect:thumb:
On the one tyre thing next year, if it will give Rossi and Stoner the chance to battle it out properly, I'm all for it:thumb:
CrisPDuk 25 September 2007, 05:46 its weird, people seem to forget Haydon was champ last yr,wonder how he feels right now
I bet he's wishing he'd signed that bit of paper Livio Suppo pushed under his nose at Laguna Seca last year:lol1:
firstscoobdude 25 September 2007, 19:53 so were agreed then " rossi is the greatest gp rider ever " sweet :thumb: .
GROWLER_GRRRR 26 September 2007, 00:12 then dohan , lol :brickwall
bighead 26 September 2007, 01:11 Rossi is the best by far full stop !
CrisPDuk 26 September 2007, 11:51 so were agreed then " rossi is the greatest gp rider ever " sweet :thumb: .
I never said that:Suspiciou
Without doubt Rossi is the greatest rider of this generation, but is as good as Hailwood, or Agostini, unfortunately we'll never know:(
But if anyone manages to organise that race, I'll be one of the first in the Queue to see it:thumb:
firstscoobdude 26 September 2007, 17:43 no i did :thumb:
Muerde 27 September 2007, 13:16 Rossi without a doubt is the best rider I am every likey to see, regardless of what he rides I would not bet against him, just watching him set bad lap times then totally changing his style to try to get as much as possible from a bad package is frankly amazing, you can watch 6 laps and each one he will do something different to get more speed... Look where Edwards comes and count the places to where Rossi gets the same bike...
Last season a slightly dodgy bike and bad luck lost him the title, this year tyres and a frankly a hugely under powered bike lost him the championship. Never before have I watched a bike passed so easily during a race, the power and topend on that Ducati were amazing compared with where everyone else was.. Ducati were lucky to have landed on their feet running with the 800's and you have to hand it to them they have a fantastic package in what is essentailly a development season, fantastic statment to us all that 800's can actaully be faster and better than the old 1000's....
Put Rossi on that ducati vs Stoner... Rossi every time, its annoying but hes just fast, both with cars and bikes... I think when hes finished in bikes we will see him in either F1 or Rally...
Do I rate stoner, as much as I rate Hayden really, hes fast and consistently so but he didnt win fighting for anything. I though he was going to fall off when Perdrosa passed him at the weekend, I don't think he used to people passing him... Every race where the ducati hasnt been able to take advantage or its awsome power hes not won. Stick Hayden on it and he would have won this year again probably, or ever Melandri... Rossi on it and he would have already won...
Stoners fast hes champ and respect to him and ducati, big shame about the ilmor's lets hope for more teams next season, cant wait to see what yamaha get up to now as its just for fun and a second place.
Also bet this has helped Ductai sales laods... even I want a big red twin :)
