My steering has 'gone hard' and the garage is not sure whether it is the pump or the rack that is at fault.

The pump is the easiest thing to change but at £355+VAT, not cheap ... and so the garage has recommended getting hold of a donor one that we can swop over to in order to see whether that is a problem, and then if it is I'll order a proper new one and return the donor one.

So has anyone got a pump lying around for a while that I can borrow - maybe you've got an engine rebuild underway or something and it isnt in use .

All help gratefully received as it does not appear to be a common problem and there are no leaks anywhere.
