As the weather seems to have turned I think it may be time for some new winter gear (jacket & trousers).

I've been looking at hien gericke and alpinestars stuff but wondered if anyone could vouch for kit first hand? It'll be used for the comute so no power rangers suits thanks.

I use leathers all year with a waterproof hi-vis overjacket (I have vented leathers for summer and non-vented for winter and not in powerranger colours). Only in proper rain (which to be honest aint that often) do the 1 piece waterproofs come out. For me there is no better thing to fall off a bike than leather so all year I use them.

You will be suprised just how warm 2 or 3 layers are (by that something like a tshirt then helly hansen/sub zero thermal then leather jacket and overjacket), the only cold bits I get mid winter (which peaked at -10 last winter) are hands/feet which is to be expected really, even then I have a pair of heated gloves which keep my hands warm in very cold conditions - don't use them unless below 0 though. I do 80miles every day.

Interesting.

I have 2 piece leathers but was looking at textile for the winter, ideally something that can be pulled over a pair of suit trousers and a shirt. Cold isn't a major issue, not at this time of year anyway, but they must be waterproof.

Is a one piece oversuit not a lot of faffing about?

I use Aerostich kit (http://www.motorbikestoday.com/features/Articles/aerostitch_roadcrafter.htm) - it's expensive @ around £450 but now I've used it I can't imagine going back to 2 piece stuff.

Just change your shoes for boots, put the suit on over your normal clothes (20 seconds) and you're sorted :thumb:

A car ;)

But seriously, the big thing for me is frozen thumbs, I fit some cheap Moto-X handguards over winter (got them from a breakers) and my hands stay warm no matter how cold the ambient temp is.
