My sincere condolences. I remember when Colin won the World Championship and the image of him doing doughnuts with the St Andrews flag flying out the window will stay with me forever. RIP Colin, Johnny, Ben and Graeme. James L 18 September 2007, 23:05 A very sad loss for the families and the rallying fans An iconic figure who will aways be in the hearts of us all. ricardo_wrx 19 September 2007, 00:18 When I first heard the news I had the same feeling when Senna died, just total shock and disbelief.........Another sad day in motorsport. What an terrible loss to the world of motorsport. He was a total legend through and through! My thoughts and wishes are with his family and close friends. I gave Colin the biggest cheer at Rally GB 2005. :luxhello: He will be remembered as on of the best! StewartyBoy 19 September 2007, 04:40 Posted on SIDC. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, make the trip from southern regions to commemorate the great mans life. "I was contacted today by the events organisers at Lanark market who asked me to inform everyone that this weekend is the tractor show and they are expecting over 7000 visitors to the market. They had heard via Radio Clyde there would be a meet and suggested that it would be better not to meet this weekend as unfortunately it would be too busy because of the Tractor show . She said that we would be more than welcome to use their carpark etc to muster for the Memorial service or indeed any other time to pay our respects as they knew Colin well , and they saw the Club presence on Sunday and would like to help us . As soon as date and times are announced for the Service we will organise SIDC/Scottish Scoobies meet . Grant (Squirrel/Squiggle) is organising a visit for some of our members who are travelling up from England this weekend - This will be fairly low-key . Cars will be assemble at Happendon services and park up and as few cars as possible will take everyone to Lanark so as to cause minimum disruption . Please contact Grant via PM for more details of this (The Squiggle) We will try our best to keep everyone updated with information , as we get it , via the forum . Thanks . Al. Colin you are a legend, Rallying will not be the same without you. RIP Colin. hales 19 September 2007, 13:22 Farewell but never goodbye….. It all started as a man who I would watch on TV, to a person who we would travel to watch, to a person who provided me with an addiction to a sport and then the addiction to purchase a motor icon which would change my life for ever…… Since becoming involved and addicted to both the rally world and Subaru I have travelled to many far away places to watch the most addictive sport in the world. I have spent fantastic hours of adrenaline filled fun behind the wheels of a world wide motor icon. Played hours and hours of video games pretending to be the man himself, read books and finally made many, many new friends which again has resulted to hours and hours of fun and experiences. This is all due to one man, Mr Colin McRae my god how much has this man influenced my life and I didn’t even realise it…. RIP Mr Colin McRae, Johnny, Ben and Graeme. Tragic, just tragic….. p1prodrive 19 September 2007, 20:54 Farewell and god bless to all involved ! The man will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends that have to bare the burden of such a tragic loss Colin inspired all of us with his Rallying skills and most, if not all, played the games, watched him on TV and then bought Subarus to try and get closer to the man himself. I feel numb and lost, it's a tragic loss to the world... :( R.I.P Colin and those taken so early in that helicopter... scooby-gus 20 September 2007, 18:02 As with a lot of you Colin is the reason i now own a Scooby, the man is a Legend of the highest order and is a massive loss to the world of motorsport where he will be sadly missed. Nice. Wobba 24 September 2007, 15:38 Back in 1994 I started to become aware of Colin as a competitor throughout WRC and other events. I was fortunate to have watched him drive when I was in my early twenties, and although I wasn't always sure of who was in which car, I could ALWAYS tell when Colin came flying past: His style was unique and spectacular! In 1995 he won the WRC. I walked out of my door, aged 21, drove to two Subaru dealerships (the first one wouldnt even let me see a Scooby, they probably thought I was a joy rider), and at the second dealership was introduced to the Series McRae Impreza. It became my regular steed for three years, till I got my first imported WRX. Watching Colin and his Scooby made me want more power and so I started my own company importing cars from Japan. All because of being inspired by this amazing driver. I'll always remember Colin for what he was best at: His incredible ability and passion. We have lost a great asset. ally-b 25 September 2007, 20:17 These are the SIDC arrangements for Sunday. All Subaru owners are more than welcome to join us . "Police contacted me this afternoon and we discussed arrangements for Sunday. All areas to assemble at Happendon services (between J11 + J12 M74) from 13:00 . We will move off at 14:00 prompt and procede en masse to Lanark auction market . The cars will all be parked there and shuttle busses will be provided to take everyone to Lanark town centre. The town centre will be closed off and big screens will be in place to show the service at 16:00. Police are going to contact me later in the week but we/they do not expect any changes to the above (obviously anything I hear from them will be posted here Announcement Of Service Of Celebration For Colin Mcrae (updated With Dates) - Subaru Impreza Drivers Club (http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=106324) ) Would everyone coming please ensure that your route will avoid Lanark town centre ." Thanks , See you all there. Ally. suby_speed5 26 September 2007, 04:29 THE helicopter crash which claimed the lives of rally ace Colin McRae, his son and two other passengers could have been caused by the failure of a component which links the engine to the rotor blades, Scotland on Sunday can reveal. Police sources say they are almost certain the tragedy was caused by mechanical failure rather than pilot error. It is understood one of the theories being examined is whether the Twin Squirrel's drive belt failed, causing a sudden and catastrophic loss of power. Sources close to the inquiry claim that no trace of the belt has yet been found, a possible indication that the vital component broke - or disintegrated - immediately before the accident. Few more tears shed when I saw that on the news. They played Otis Redding Dock Of The Bay one the way in, and the Proclaimers I'm On My Way coming out. I'll always think of Colin when I hear them now. Mike. boobaru 28 September 2007, 23:04 Its the first time I've ever heard of it and I also shed a tear, thought it was very sweet and fitting. As with you the songs will always make me think of him . |
