Help!
In photoshop create a 50mm x 50mm image
Then veiw-->Print size
I presumed that the image would show full size on screen, but when you measure it on the screen it shows about 40mm by 40mm.
The rulers on screen do say that the image is the correct size but I want to see it as such on screen.
Done some searching and some people talk about a 'Monitor resolution factor' a setting to take into account your monitor resolution.
But I cant find out where you can adjust this in Photoshop
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Paul

The trouble is that the image will still be the same number of pixels across on screen, so if, for arguments sake, it's 400x400 then if you have a 19" screen and for some bizarre reason the screen resolution is 640x480 then the image will display at about 300mmx300mm. Likewise, if your resolution is 1280x1024 then the image will just be 1/3 of the screen...
How do you adjust it in Photoshop? No idea, sorry :(

Right,
It has not been a problem for me as with photos and web stuff I do tend to work in pixels, but my sister in law is using it for graphic design and printing a lot out so it is akward, will this issue be the same in Publisher / In design etc that is more suted to publications/print work?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
I found the following in this (http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bc4b1a4/4) thread.
Lyman,
I do not see such a field, even within "Display And Cursors". I am still using CS2, so what you are asking may be germane to CS3?
No, it's not just germane to CS3; it works on CS2 as well.
Here we go, in fond remembrance of the late, lamented John Slate:
John Slate - 3:08pm Jul 15, 05 PST (#7 of 10)
If you want to get exact about displaying print size:
Open a new 500 pixel x 500 pixel file in Photoshop, and set it to 100% (view actual pixels) if it does not come up that way.
Get out a ruler and measure the image on screen in inches.
Divide 500 by the measurement.
This is the resolution of your screen.
Move the decimal point 2 places to the right in that number, and write it down somewhere. Call it your monitor factor.
- - -
And, with a little help from "Gener":
You can enter this monitor factor in the "Screen Resolution" field
under Preferences > Units&Rulers.
From now on when using the "Print Size" button in the Hand or Zoom Tools Option Bar, you will have an accurate on-screen proof of the Document Size. In other words turn on your rulers (Cmd - R) and it will match a ruler held up to the screen.
Now in Photoshop CS2, they fixed View > Print Size to reflect the
screen factor you entered in as well.

Again John Slate:
For InDesign or Illustrator viewing actual size assumes a monitor of 72ppi, so to fine tune actual size in those apps, divide your monitor factor by 72 to get the % view you need for those apps to see same size.
For Photoshop, divide your monitor factor by the resolution (in ppi) of whatever image you are working on to determine the right zoom percentage for that image.

Hi Paul,
I prefer to use Adobe Illustrator to get images to be exactly the size I want. However it's possible to get them to the correct size in PS too.
Want DPI setting are you using?
I've just done a 50 mm x 50 mm image at 200 px/cm in PS and when I get the image properties it tells me it's 1000 px x 1000 px. When you print in PS you need to ensure the scaling is set to 100% to get an image on paper that is 50mm x 50mm, if that makes sense. on my screen with the print view set to 50% this item measure 145mm x 148 mm! With the rulers switched on it shows to be 50mm x 50mm.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Ian

In relation to the post I made above, I've tried the calculations and it does seem to work.
I used the default of 72 for the screen resolution, created a document that was 500 x 500 pixels (176.39mm x 176.39mm), then selected View -> Print Size and it didn't seem to change anything. Measuring the document with a ruler I found it was only 132mm x 132mm.
I then performed the calculation mentioned above.
The image was aprox 5 3/16 wide, so 500 divided by 5 3/16 = 96.3855422. We'll round that to 96.38. I went into Units & Rulers, entered that in the screen value, then created another new 500 x 500 pixel doc (change units to mm). at 100 percent it was still 132mm x 132mm. However, when I selected View -> Print Size, the size did change and when measuring the image size on screen it was the correct 176mm in size.
