Hi - I would like to tint both front and rear lights on my Blobeye Wagon. The car of the colour is black and I think it would look pretty smart if the lights were somehow tinted in a smoked like colour just to blend them in slightly. As its a wagon getting hold of rear smoked lights is near on impossible.

Anyone got any suggestions or ideas? Also I think I know the answer to this but is it illegal to tint lights with spray or films like this DECALFX.com! I took my headlights out put them in the over for 15 mins and split them spraying the inside satin black :thumb: there is a thread on here somewhere detailing how to do this

Glyn, go with film IF you're not going to take apart the actual lamp housing, spray tint stuff is crap over the top because you often get a milky uneven effect when the bulbs are lit.

I have had film over the rear tail lights done by signs Express for several years on my Pontiac, legality wise as long as it lets light thru and there are visible reflectors on the rear of the vehicle it is able to pass MOT.

I read the thread ref splitting the front lights to remove the orange segment etc. That is something I would like to-do but I'm just a tad worried something will go wrong! If go for it then spraying the inside is something I will do. Did you have to use a certain type of paint, ie for heat?

Film sounds like the way to go forward for the rear lights. Do you know if window tinting companys can do this?

Once the lights were split i sprayed the silver bit of the light with plastic primer then once that had dried i painted it in satin black from halfords and put them back together.

Same company, its a chain / franchise, you may have someone at your local one who takes an interest and says they'll do it for ya, otherwise that yank site that do em pre-cut maybe worth a punt.

Mine came to about £100 fitted.:freak3:

Remember you must have red reflective material on the rear of your car, im gonna change mine from as you see in the pic to two little round ones like you see on motorbikes.

If you get your film custom made get them to leave or cut a slither out so your oem reflectors are visible.

I've heard some people getting local bodyshop to spray them, usually it's a 50/50 mix of paint and lacquer that they seem to get, and that way you can get a pretty decent colour match going on.
