Sorry for sounding a dope...I just need a reality check please...am I correct in thinking the correct filter size for the D70 kit lense is 67mm? I need to give details to relatives in the UK so they can buy me (for my impending birthday) a polarising and UV filter.

I think it should say on your lens, the opposite side to the gold Nikon DX label, my 18-135mm ED lense has the marking 0-45mm/1.48ft o (with a slash through it) 67, I measured it and its 67 mm, if no marking get your tape meassure out :)

Yes the Nikon 18-70 filter size is indeed 67mm.
Make sure you specify a slimline filter mount so that you don't suffer from vignetting at the wide end.
