been to fratton park (krap nott arf) a few times and it is a fantastic ground and great supporters (apart from the chavs outside the ground acting "hard") the noise was incredible.

Not expecting much from the game. I'm thinking Fergie wont want to throw the season away in the first 2 or 3 games ;) I would be happy to sneak a draw, but if we turn them over like last year I will be more than happy :cool:

Well that went well. A draw which is not a surprise as pompy have a good record at home v United. Ronaldo getting himself sent off and banned for 3 games with a resurgent city at the weekend isn't much of a help.

A good result for us.

Poor first half, we gave united far too much respect.
Second half we decided to have a crack at it and start closing manure down.

A couple of points.

1. The new card entry system should have been teasted earlier. As a result I was 10-15 minutes late getting into the ground :confused:

2. Ref's need to consider their actions more. Giving a player a second yellow for a minor foul in a non dangerous area just spoils games. Luckily Ronaldo evened the numbers back up quickly.

I agree with point 2. Refs giving straight reds to players for walking towards another player just spoils games too. ;)

Pompey fans are up there with the most vocal around and in some respects I was pleased with a draw as we usually do worse there.

We're just missing that traditional striker at present. We've passed it and p1ssed it round teams all pre season and in our first two league games only to lack the final scoring touch... It really is clear already that United are in terms of ability / movement / skills etc even better than last year but we just need Mark Robins or Peter Davenport back asap.

It's weird looking at the table at the moment with City, Chelski and Everton up at the top, knowing that in 3 months time they wont be :D

I have to say that United looked very good at times :thumb:

Perhaps they should knock on Stuart Pearsons door and see what he is up to these days :thumb:

I can understand what Fergie is saying regarding Ronaldo reacting, we all know he's bigger than that and should know better, but he's never given any protection from referees. :mad:

The way Ronaldo has lumps kicked out of him, he could quite easily go down much, much, much more than he does.

he probably has more possesion than any other player on the pitch, what do you expect ? i've seen worse playing sunday league football than what he gets and refs turn a blind eye.

Suggest he stops poncing around and get on with it.

Good management though, spend 35m on water carriers and no one to bang the goals in. class.

As I said, a little protection now and then wouldn't go amiss. If he's hacked down (especially from behind) the referee should stick to the laws of the game and book the player.

Of course you see worse at Sunday league - I get kicked each time I'm on the ball because I'm younger/faster (fractionally)/better looking (;)) than the oldies.

Regardless of how tall he is, or how built, at his speed, it's hard for him to stay on his feet when he's got people making desperate challenges.

As I've said, when all Gerrard has to do is look at the referee to get free kick, some of the challenges that are ignored by the referee on Cristiano are laughable. He was swiped from behind against Portsmouth, which, by the letter of the law, is a yellow card...nothing.

i think gerrard did a little more than look at the ref, besides if a ref is weak enough to give it then thats not his problem.

the 35m was in reference to you buying two defensive midfielders when it could have been used better elsewhere.

as for ronnie he's built his own reputation, refs think he's a diver.
