View Full Version : F1- who next for McLaren RRH 07 August 2007, 21:15 Its sounding like mcLaren are prepared to release Alonso at the end of the year, but I can't, for the life of me, think of a suitable replacement. Comments welcome :) FlightMan 07 August 2007, 22:28 I would love to see JB in a truly competitive car. RRH 07 August 2007, 23:33 Yep, me too; an all british line up would be nice, and would allow Jenson to show his true form- although I appreciate that comment may be contraversial. Kubica maybe? Funkii Munkii 08 August 2007, 06:43 I would love to see JB in a truly competitive car. So would JB lol, everytime he makes a decision the team he signs for goes off the boil. "If" Ferrari come in for Hamilton with some Schumacher style golden handcuff deal Alonso could well stay, if they don't get Hamilton I could easily see the chn returning for one last season. BMWhere? 08 August 2007, 14:04 Hamilton will never leave McLaren! I think Mercedes would probably want a German driver and Santander would want a Spanish driver! The question really is, where would Alonso go! Can't see Ferrari having him alongside Kimi. BMW are unlikely to replace Heidfeld or Kubica as they are both doing a sterling job! Renault probably wouldn't have him back out of spite, then the options start getting very limited. Perhaps replacing Ralf Schufailure at Toyota in the hope that all the money they're spending might one day pay off! FlightMan 08 August 2007, 14:33 Alonso could well go back to Renault and replace Fisi. When Renault get the hang on the Bridgestones, they'll be up there again, and Alonso would only advance the team. Dracoro 08 August 2007, 14:45 Kubica or Heidfeld. CupraDave 08 August 2007, 15:04 would have to be Kubica for me, I think having him and LH at McLaren would be an incredible combo. Did I not hear something recently about Briatore wanting Alonso back at Renault? Might have been during the pre race build up for Hungary, but then I could just be imagining things pnbond007 09 August 2007, 18:24 off the cuff....Schumy to finish season for big Ron reality: Kubica or Heidfeld it has to be said pnbond007 09 August 2007, 18:28 Schumacher took some beating in the cheat stakes, but he never put his team mate at risk of losing points or potential win's. Alonso is an absolute disgrace, by far the worst example of bad sportsmanship I have ever whitnessed in F1 over the last 30+yrs Sonic' 15 August 2007, 13:20 I heard that Flav wants Alonso back But it might be to send him off to the football club him & bernie eccleston are looking at buying Arsenal for Berine, and QPR for Flav Patt@firstime 15 August 2007, 16:58 I think Alonso will stay as theres no where else for him to go lol Hoppy 16 August 2007, 11:38 Hamilton to stay at McLaren, Alonso back to Renault. But who to partner Hamilton? I think we have seen what happens when you have two young guns at each other's throats. We have also seen the benenefits of having a Michael/Rubens arrangement. Rubens probably deserves more credit for Schumacher's success than he got. I'd like Button alongside Hamilton, but that just contradicts what I've said above. Button would not move to play second fiddle. What McLaren needs is a safe pair of hands to collect regular points and defend Hamilton strategically. Someone like De La Rosa maybe. Richard. Iain Young 16 August 2007, 13:16 or coulthard :D messiah 16 August 2007, 14:14 Wouldn't be suprised if Alonso went stateside for a season or 2 and came back to F1 in 2009 / 10. McLaren signing Button would be great for me - an all British, apologies, I mean an all English team :D Wouldn't be suprised if Ron went looking to someone like Dario Franchitti, although Indy / Champ car drivers haven't gone down too well with them over the last few years. Hoppy 16 August 2007, 19:52 or coulthard :D That's an interesting idea. It could be a great combination, but Coulthard was effectively sacked by McLaren as a has-been. And while it is fun to ponder the options, we don't know the full picture, bearing in mind that F1 is primarily about money these days. Hamilton is Vodafone and massively valuable to McLaren, but Alonso probably holds the keys to Santander's coffers. Thinking about it, if Alonso can hold his cool, another Hamilton/Alonso straight fight would be a good show in 2008. And afterall, Alonso could well be a third-time world champion with McLaren this year ;) Richard. HankScorpio 16 August 2007, 21:19 I reckon Coulthard. Has had a resurgence since getting his head out his ass, can mentor Hamilton, bring him on on some of the other aspects of F1, provide a calmer, not really competitive team mate and still be bringing in points and podiums. Patt@firstime 18 August 2007, 09:19 I reckon Coulthard. Has had a resurgence since getting his head out his ass, can mentor Hamilton, bring him on on some of the other aspects of F1, provide a calmer, not really competitive team mate and still be bringing in points and podiums. Can't see McLaren ever signing someone of Coulthards age and previous results |
