Just back from a holiday in York (lovely place..)

Usually when a motorbike wants to pass, I move over slightly to the left, letting them squeeze by. I usually get a nice wave. I noticed in England however that I only got about 1 wave out of about 10 manouveres...

BTW - plenty Scooby waves - better than Scotland!!!

Ive been told by a biker mate, also a t@sser, that when you move to the left you tend to kick up loose stones, dust etc so they dont really like it. On the same subject, every biker ive come accross in the last 6 years at the nurburgring have all been halfwits having left there brains at home and more often than not sometimes leaving their brains on the armcoe. They are not all the same, there are some responsible riders out there but im yet to find one.

I like people who move over in queues to allow filtering but if it is on the open road there really isn't a need. If it is safe then i'll pass you no problem. indicate to the left to let me know you've seen the nike and i'll be happy.
Deffo get a wave if you do move though and yes, some bikers are wankers as are a lot of car drivers.

Was driving last sunday through a village that had just had the road resurfaced, plenty of loose chippings and a 20mph speed notice.

Some prat on a bike was behind me for a while and only overtook when we hit the 20 limit, kicking stones up my bonnet and chipping my windscreen.

Not happy, when he pulled over I told him so!

He pulled over? :O Can't be an utter half-wit if he a) realised something was wrong and b) didn't boot it away immediately.

My sympathies to your windscreen.

I agree, theres no need to move over on a open road, if we want to get past you we will.

Alot of the time we will be happily riding behind a car and they will start pulling to the left, usualy flickin sh!te up, when I dont even want to be past you in the first place. Dont worry about us, just drive normally, again if we want to be past you we will. Also do bear in mind that if you do pull over and a bike blasts past you and more cars its sometimes not safe to start waving at the cars you are over taking

Dont get me wrong tho, if im riding close to the middle line, obviously wanting to be past you, and you move over then yeah I will give you a :thumb: everytime :)

Its also nice to make room in slow movin traffic too :notworthy

Spot on. As an extension to this, it is moving over in a 40 or 30 limit that is the problem. Ok in a 60 i'll make progress and pass you quickly but in a 30 or 40 when there could be kids/coppers etc around i'm happy to obey the limit and sit there obeying the law and as said, moving over flicks stuff up and makes us break the limit to get past. Trust me when that black and white sign comes up i'll be at 60 no worries!

Also agree on the wave thing, sometimes it just isn't possible but if it is then you'll deffo get a thanks. :thumb:

I think you are missing the point he is trying to make:

Stephen Pope is saying English bikers are ignoramuses so jjones is saying scottish scoob drivers are chavs. I dont think he really thinks scottish scoob drivers are chavs...hes just usin the same rule as the guy who started this post.

I think :wonder:

I always make a point of a nod or thump up, if some one has made the effort to slightly pull over/:thumb:

agree with the throwing crap from the road up.

But as i think stated befor just drive normally\ any half decent rider will of spoted where and when he is gonna make his move,

The ones you wanna watch are the twats that pull to the right, getting pissy when they are stuck in traffic and you are filtering nicely.:hjtwofing

Gotta love communting....:wonder:

exactly, nothing like tarring everyone with the same brush based upon some limited experience.

on the bike i always try (if the circumstances allow - and they usually do) to thank anyone who has moved over, usually with a wave of the left hand.

Agree with fivetide - if I'm on a tight/ twisty road I'll always move over and show some consideration. If its on an open road I don't tend to worry too much. They get by without any problems.

Bikers around here are just accelerating the onset of death, It is regretable that it's usually someone elses, It really is time bikes are restricted.

Thanks for the sympathy.
He pulled over as he had reached his destination, and YES he did boot it, causing the stones to fly up and crack the screen. It's Ok I have a new screen now.:thumb:

Last time I was up there inspecting the Scottish colonies I was amazed firstly by how many gingers (too much family erm 'socialising'?)there are but also when the locals spoke to me in their pigion English (do they have there own language btw?) they did so as if equals. A few more hundred years of English domminent rule will soon sort that one out I've no doubt. Best thing to do is stay in Glasgow and remove that funny flag from your number plate....

Elmer your such a Keyboard Warrior:rolleyes:
On a serious note i always acknoledge Drivers that pull over. Its good to know they know you are there. On the other hand being covered in Gravel, road debris is not nice. A Bike will get past without you pulling over. Perks of a Bike ;)
