View Full Version : UEFA Champions League - The Road To Moscow
DJ Dunk 02 August 2007, 11:32 From UEFA.com . . .
The UEFA Champions League group stage will move into sharp focus when the draw for the decisive third qualifying round takes place on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
Former winners
Six former winners of European club football's most prestigious trophy are involved in the draw - which gets under way from 12.00CET at UEFA headquarters and will be streamed live on uefa.com - with SL Benfica, AFC Ajax and Celtic FC among the 16 seeded clubs along with last season's runners-up Liverpool FC and UEFA Cup holders Sevilla FC. There are also some intriguing names among the 16 unseeded sides, including FC Spartak Moskva, AEK Athens FC, AS Sparta Praha and Fenerbahçe SK, all of whom have appeared in the group stage in the past two seasons. If any club in the second qualifying round has an individual coefficient which entitles them to be seeded in the third qualifying round, the potential winner of the match involving that club has been automatically seeded in the draw.
Group-stage goal
In all, 46 teams will be involved with the 28 teams still competing in the second qualifying round, to be concluded next Wednesday, joined by the 18 clubs entering at this stage. Clubs from the same country cannot be drawn together. Matches will be played on 14/15 and 28/29 August, with Sevilla's second leg scheduled for Tuesday 28 August irrespective of their opponents and venue because they meet AC Milan in the UEFA Super Cup that Friday. The winners of the 16 third qualifying round ties will go through to September's group stage, where they will join 16 teams who have automatically qualified. Friday's proceedings will be conducted by David Taylor, UEFA’s General Secretary, and Giorgio Marchetti, director of professional football. The final will be played in Moscow on 21 May.

UEFA.com . . .
The seedings for the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage have been announced with the draw to be made at 18.00 CET today at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
Monaco setting
Wednesday's 12 victorious sides from the third qualifying round and Tuesday's three winners take their place alongside the 16 automatic entrants in the draw for the eight UEFA Champions League groups. Making their debut at this stage are SK Slavia Praha, having knocked out AFC Ajax on Wednesday evening. Also in the draw are Sevilla FC and AEK Athens FC, who play the second leg of their tie next Monday after a postponement due to the death of Antonio Puerta on Tuesday.
Fixture schedule
The UEFA Champions League group stage will be played on 18/19 September, 2/3 October, 23/24 October, 6/7 November, 27/28 November and 11/12 December, though AC Milan's last game will be on 4 December due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. The winners and runners-up from each pool will progress to the first knockout round in the spring, with the final set for Moscow on 21 May. Teams finishing third in each section will have the consolation of going into the UEFA Cup Round of 32.
Pairings
Where two clubs from the same association have qualified, they are paired to split their matches between Tuesday and Wednesday. In the case of associations with three representatives, only two sides have been paired in terms of their fixtures; in the case of associations with four representatives, two pairings are made. Sevilla and AEK have been paired with two different teams to provide for the eventuality of either side winning.

STi wanna Subaru 18 September 2007, 15:43 The real games start tonight. tough one for Liverpool I feel. Chelski should have no problems. Jose is moaning like a bitch though.
NAF 18 September 2007, 16:43 Liverpools one looks pretty tough allrite ...
I'd be happy enough with a draw .
16vmarc 18 September 2007, 18:44 Applied for Roma tickets :)
Didn't get them, no doubt all the prawn sandwiches applied expecting another 7-1 result
DJ Dunk 18 September 2007, 20:35 Liverpools one looks pretty tough allrite ...
I'd be happy enough with a draw .
Porto looking strong, but we're just about holding our own. Need to be careful with this ref too.
DJ Dunk 18 September 2007, 21:37 Did well to hang on to that point, thought we played awfully. Porto certainly know how to draw the fouls and make a meal of them
NAF 18 September 2007, 21:40 I knew Pennant was gonna get himself sent off Dunk
Obviously pretty happy at taking a point considering ..
seemed to be lots problems in midfield ,
Thought Gerrard was very ordinary tonight , Mascherano's passing was brutal and we had a total inability to hold onto the ball . Kept giving it away very cheaply
Still I guess its prob our hardest game arguably of the group so the result aint too bad
NAF 18 September 2007, 21:41 Stevie g should have shot when he made that chance at the end as well instead of passing it to Kuyt
DJ Dunk 18 September 2007, 21:48 Kuyt was our only player out there, Gerrard looked very unfit and agreed, he should have smashed it.
Lets get that point out of the stadium, onto the plane and home before anyone realises :thumb:
NAF 18 September 2007, 21:56 Could have been a lot worse really !
say like drawing at home to Rosenborg for instance ;)
lol :D
