hi i read somewhere that the above might be being released in the uk has anyone any idea when, where and how much these will likely to be? as im looking to do a bit of detailling on my car as it needs tidying up a bit:)

Black Scoobies are a nightmare to keep clean and scratch/ swirl free...
I've not heard owt about what you've asked for...
But Polished Bliss will help you... I'm currently using some of the blackfire range on my black Type R and the finish is awesome...

porter cables work well as long as you know how to use them

cool i might look at those aswell then i have never used one before but i have a couple of test cars to work on before i go for my own lol:)
the reason i asked about the udm is that i think it was supposed to come with a uk plug on it and i believe its a little better than the pc

the porta cable is the origianl version of the udm. but it has to be run on a 110 volt transformer and imported from the states.

the udm will be euro voltage friendly and you'll be able to plug it straight in to your normal socket. the udm looks like it will be about £100 for the machine. don;t forget to add on all the other bits and pieces that you'll need. buffing pads, several grades of polish. to do it properly look to spend between £160 and £200. the porta cable is available already and with everything you need to get going is between £200 and £250.

and i have to admit it would be tempting doing it for a living and being self employed rather than the mundane grind i do now

that's why i'm heading that way. only part time at the moment but we'll see what happens ;)

pretty much the same thing. more money in detailing if you're good at it though. Although you have to cater for what the customer wants to start with. No point pricing yourself out of the market that's around you. if you get more business by calling it valeting and charging less then that's the way to go. I'm aiming at both markets at the moment.

so far doing part time i'm booked until mid september :D

not too bad. i'd already bought a lot of the stuff that i needed to be able to do my own car from polished bliss. i've added a few different products to it and bits and bobs that you need, the pc, rotary, cloths, masking tape, paint thickness gauge etc so i guess so far about £600. by the time i add a van, water tank and generator to that though it'll be a fair bit more.

it would be something i would consider doing myself i do enjoy making a car look clean, and the satisfaction of being youre own boss must be great:)

it is good. one thing i forgot about was the public liability insurance. can be a bit of a killer.

The UDM on paper seems a great piece of kit.. I do believe it offers more torque and power though.
So for the novice it offers a greater chance of doing some harm compared to the PC.

So be carefull :)

mneane-good luck with the business it's good that your booked till September. Leave some ESC cars for me though;)

cheers muddy :thumb: how does the business go over the winter months? in some ways i'd suspect quieter but in others i'd expect it to get busier as the cars will need doing more often.

We got a prototype to test a month or so ago, and had chance to play with it on an M3. So far so good, it beats the PC hands down for correction power, but on the flip side it's so much more powerful that care is required, as heat transfer is much higher. We think it will be a better option than the PC in terms of compromise between corrective power and safety, and we hope to be stocking it from Oct/Nov onwards.

Thanks for the comments. The car is an out and out show car, which is about 95% concours (Need to make up 5% for the Autoglym Concours D'elegance Final in October).

I only drive it on weekends and in the dry. It very rarely gets washed fully during the year.

Plus I've been doing this kind of thing for 15 years so I know a thing or too about shiny cars :)
