Guys, we're really pleased with this great new feature for ScoobyNet Plus members.

The ScoobyNet LiveFeed shows a live updating stream of the last 25 or so posts. As a new post is made, the list will scroll down and show the new post in real time, making it a great way to keep track of whats going on all over the board from one location page.

Check it out and let us know what you think :
ScoobyNet (http://www.scoobynet.com/livefeed.php)

We expect this service to be relatviely resource hungry, so it is only available to ScoobyNet Plus Member for now, but may at some point be extended to Full Member and Full Member +.

Regards
The ScoobyNet Team.

A big thumbs up from me too ;)

I like it a lot, and actually cuts down on browsing the forums, I can see a lot of instances where this is really really useful

If your in the market to buy something, you can see stuff go up for sale straight away, if your selling something you can monitor your thread in real time all from one screen

Very very useful

Well done to Scoobynet for this :thumb:

Someone to write a desktop widget showing the headlines would be sweet - or if the threads could be chucked out in an RSS feed.

Pause and play buttons are cool though :)

I was surprised how fast it moves as well - this is one busy board!

That would be nice.

We will have to wait for OSX leopard for that.

Yahoo! Widgets - 1,000s of Widgets for your Mac or Windows Desktop (http://widgets.yahoo.com/) work well though.

In my opinion this should remain a plus user feature only.

The £5 and £10 for life memberships represent such good value for money that plus membership should way exceed the features these two membership levels offer.

Keep loading the plus membership packages and I might just subscribe again (user definable avatars? ;) )

Good work all the same :luxhello:

WOW! Thanks for being so incredibly reasonable, and I tend to agree.

Generally, what we're looking at is this.

Features that are to do with your actual account / profile, we're tending to make available to full members and to a greater degree, Full Member +. These are generally features which do not cost on going money, but, in the same was as the charge is a one-off, so it the cost to us. Many of these we are offering to plus members also, but they obviously only last while the membership is running.

Features which have an ongoing additional cost to scoobynet, or create an ongoing additional load on the servers (which basically ammounts to additional cost in the long run) are mostly being restricted to plus members, as their charge is ongoing also.

-

Approx 50% of our time is being spent investigating and implimenting benefits for plus members, about 25% for full members only, and about 25% for everyone.

We are also (as a side note) about to start tracking those with ad blocking, and will be restricting some features for these members, and offering new features to those who show don't block the adverts (on a kind of credits basis).

This will go hand in hand with the ability of plus members to remove the adverts - which is one of the next things to impliment.

That would be nice.

We will have to wait for OSX leopard for that.

Not sure I understand this, as 10.4 does have Dashboard within it and writing a widget isn't overly difficult. Obviously you'd have to invoke Dashboard to see the thing (unless you run it in debug mode, which isn't advised), whereas with Konfabulator/Widget Engine you don't need to do that.

I guess it all depends on how the feed is generated, as I'm not a plus member I cannot see the feed, so cannot see how complex/easy it would be to create a widget to read it.

Simon, is this feed code something custom written for SN, or is it available elsewhere, if so, can you point me at it, as I'll have a look and see if I can a) find an existing widget that could be modified to work with the feed, or b) try and write my own. Can't promise anything though, my skills in dashboard widgets are not that great, but I'm sure I could ask a couple of code monkeys to have a peek.

Well, to be honest, we'd rather not add to the server load by making this freely available.

If we did make a widget, it would need to be only available to ScoobyNet Plus members.

Can this be configured to live stream posts of your choice and / or posts you've posted on?

I'd seriously consider an upgrade if this was the case, as the alternative of watching dozens of posts scroll by from threads I'm not interested in at that time would limit its appeal for me...
