Default ScoobyClinic knocking Shocker Modification

Hey up,

Has any one had any of the exchange rear shockers that scoobyclinic offer to stop the knocking problem on the newage STi's?

Having somewhat of a bad time with them and trying to decide if it is worth continuing.

have you had any? if so any problems? and how long have you had them fitted?

Thanks
Paul

Having mine replaced under warranty again Monday on a MY05STI, dealer said there is about 30mm play in o/s/r and 10mm on N/S/R. this is second lot of rears, but only had one replacement set on front.

The worrying thing is that I was told that you dont even get a 12month warranty on warranty replaced parts so come December I will have to pay for replacements myself so would also be interested in this if its the answer.

If not then have to look elsewhere.

I've just had the knocking diagnosis on mine - only 2 months out of warranty and the car has only done <38,000 miles. Has anyone had any success getting Subaru to make any contribution in these circumstances?

It's a design fault on the suspension, it will happen to any shock that you will fit

subaru wouldn't replace mine after the warrenty had run out. They haven't changed the design either, proberly down to cost in design etc. They keep replacing them to clear their stock. So even cars that have them replaced under warrenty, eventually will have to folk out £280 each for them.
Kyb do a sti replacement for about £100 each which is a lot cheaper, but its still money you shouldn't have to spend.

I contacted Scooby Clinic a few months ago regarding the shocker fix. They replied that they would get back to me when they could do the job but have heard nothing since.

I get a rattle from rear passenger side when accellerating round a left hand bend - ie. when the suspension is unloading.

37000 miles and on my second set of shockers.

Does anyone know if Scooby Clinic actually have a fix yet?

Hi Bugsti,
Yes ScoobyClinic offer a exchange service to sort this problem, but as mentioned I have had a few problems with them, trying to find anyone else that has purchased their modified shockers to compare experiences.

Thanks

I have just replaced my rear shocks with the kyb ones off e-bay, brand new
deliverd to my door for just over £200 the pair. (compaired to £550 from subaru).

I tried subaru uk, even though my car is out of warranty it has only done 35k with FSH but they wouldnt help.

I have done about 800miles and in my opinion they feel & drive ok.

02 sti ppp.

If the KYB ones are a different design and don't have the knocking problems of the OE shocks, isn't the answer just to fit them or am I missing something. Even if your car is in warranty, I'd pay just to know it's not going to keep happening.

Impressive customer service from Subaru. SGT of Taplow put in a goodwill request and Subaru replaced the struts under warranty.

today i finally got this sorted by a very helpful and honest dealer, this is caused by a rubber insert/sleeve that sits between the top of the shock and the top mount to damp vibration, it slips from its position causing the shock to become loose, subaru are aware of this and have changed the design 3 times in 18 months, all dealers should be aware of this.mine were replaced under warranty.
if you have no joy contact simon cook at Souls of Olney (Bucks) near Milton Keynes 01234 712592 or becky at carnetix she is working to solve this problem too

So how much vibration do you think there would be if i took the rubber out and bolted the shock up again? Or are there other concerns?
