Exclamation

Just had this via e-mail.
Search files or folders with name "sulfnbk.exe" It comes up with a black ugly icon.
Apparently most anti virus software wont pick it up
Do not open just right click and delete and empty recycle bin asap.
You have 14 days then it kills your hard drive.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE UNLIKE MOST OF MY THREADS!

It's an application that Windows uses to restore long filenames. See http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...e.warning.html

General rule-of-thumb is to ignore messages like the one you clearly received, particularly if they are e-mailed. If you have got the info from a reputable source (one of the antivirus vendors' sites, or JackClark ), then post the URL for people to see in case it's been updated since you saw it.

If you have deleted this file, restoration is optional. Sulfnbk.exe is a Microsoft Windows utility that is used to restore long file names. It is not needed for normal system operation. If you want to restore it, there is more than one way to do this.

babber -- you're right, of course, but a little common sense never goes amiss. I can't remember who said that "information is worth what you've paid for it". If someone sends you an e-mail, for free, suggesting you delete a file on your system...

Arron,

Have you fixed it yet ? What O/S are you running ? Maybe someone could email the file to you!

All you need to do is then copy the file into x:\windows\command\ and away you go. I would recommend ensuring the file is there available for the next time you may need it.

Yeah right, babber

Like he's going to trust someone sending him an executable file now....

It's not necessary to restore the file, but if it needs to be done there are plenty of links on this thread to do it.

I emailed it to a couple of people yesterday without no problems, a few people emailed me offline requesting the file.

I'm not convinced that the O/S will be fine without it, otherwise why have the file in the first instance ?

Arron,

You have mail as per your profile.

I understand that you may have thought you were helping out by informing people, but in future ask before you delete anything that could be important.

Cheers Phill C

PS The file I sent is for WIN98SE

Arron,

I think I may know a little more about driving than you do about PCs however I'll come and see you at the next track day, and you can take me out in your M3

Phil I will take you out as a return favour but dont forget you thought you were going quickly with Trout you better bring a change of undies cos a rear whel drive car is a bit more looney than a Scoob and a bit of a handfull in the wet
I`ll do you a real favour and turn the DSC off
Till then.
PS I will be at Bedford mid March with the BMW drivers club......a bunch of old saddo`s but its cheap and we can cane the Skyline round or come to think of it as many cars as we like for no extra cost

Arron,

Will look forward to it!!! Have you got a Skyline ?

I prefer rear wheel drives, and was very disappointed with my Scooby when it was new. I was used to my Mark 2 RS2000. Currently rebuilding / restoring it and hopefully should be getting a Cossie Turbo in it.

Cheers Phill C

PS With Trout we were going fast, but felt safe at all times
