View Full Version : ScoobyNet - New Layout Scooby_Maxus 30 July 2007, 19:47 Errrr....not sure I even know what is going on here....sorry to be negative but I dont like it. Less is more me thinks. Too many ads and confusing layout :( ex-webby 30 July 2007, 20:00 Hi Maxus No need to apologise sir :) What's confusing about the layout? Is almost identical to the old layout? The only real change is that the page has been made wider, and an advert put in the extra space. I appreciate that you might not like the ad currently, but it makes a big difference towards the running of the site, so I'd appreciate it if you'd give it a go for a while and see how you get on with it. The content of the ads will improve over the coming weeks also. Let me know if there is anything specific you don't like that has changed from the previous layout. Cheers Simon mart360 30 July 2007, 22:37 Morning mart Thank you :) Could you please take a screen shot, as it may be that the formatting has gone wrong for you, as this is quite the reverse opinion of the majority / the design consultants we been dealing with. Everyone is entitled to opinion, but the insults are really necessary mate. Lets make sure you're seeing the site how its supposed to be seen first. That's very peculiar behavior. It is becoming clearer that there is something wrong with the way you're displaying scoobynet. First of all, this "dead strip" should have an advert in it, so you are probably blocking this ad, and this blocking is probably causing other elements of the site to be blocked which will probably cause this weird layout you're talking about. As for the jumping around, and full screen, not full screen, etc. Again, who knows. But this is absolutely nothing we can affect or control. Try to appreciate that we know a lot more about what's involved in all this than you do (apologies if that sounds patronising, but re-read your post if you feel I'm being unfair! :)) and this comment highlights it the most. It takes JUST as much work to look after a page that is visited by 1 person, as it does a page that's visited by 30,000 people. So the entire issue was us spending all that time looking after a site that was only used by 12 people. It just wasn't worth it. Everyone had the choice, and out of the 15,000 or so people who actually logged into their accounts and had the choice during that time, only 12 elected to use the old style. This says something to us. Again, sir, and respectfully, this just illustrates that you don't understand what's involved / how to run a site like ScoobyNet. I wish it were that simple. Your complaints appear to fall into two categories. 1) The layout is dreadful. 2) Why change it at all? well, in answer to those : 1) I think its your system which is messing with the layout, as most people seem pretty happy with it. 2) Things move on. I have explained at the start of this thread why the changes were necessary. If they just don't seem like important reasons to you, then you have to, for a moment, consider that you don't fully grasp what is required to run ScoobyNet - which is no surprise, as there is no reason for you to have to know this. Ok Shaun, Piccys as mentioned http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/mart360/scoobyshot2a.jpg this is the standard view i get on every screen. Only on SN . no other website has the same problem http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/mart360/scoobyshot3.jpg this is what happens when i move between forums Now can you see why i questioned the layout? :D re the other bits not patronising, issue clarified :D, perhaps i need to start a uGov petition to be the SN 1 keeping the old site alive :D:D Mart ex-webby 30 July 2007, 22:47 Hi Mart Thank you very much for taking the time. The first picture shows the layout as it should be. When you say "only on SN do you have this problem. What problem is it you're refering to, as the layout is exactly as it should be for you selected viewing mode. In terms of the second one, if you're saying this is how the screen ends up, then there is definitely a problem with the way your browser is rendering the page. If you're saying this is only while the page is being rendered, then this is just part of the behavior of the browser as the html is being loaded. - I've actually just realised something. Have you noticed the three mode buttons in the main dark grey nav bar at the top of each page? mart360 30 July 2007, 23:18 Hi Mart Thank you very much for taking the time. Bingo :D:D:D:D its back to normal now (ish) still a bit slow on the rendering, everything sliding in from one side of the screen, (firefox) we had this issue before, and if i recall the fix was to allow wide screen (full screen?) displays re the buttons.... nope, now doesn't that suggest things are a tad cluttered up there :D:D Mart jaws 02 August 2007, 14:39 From time to time change is necessary. Even though it's different - I will get used to it and if the new format makes the ride better then it's got to be a good thing - right? billyray911 02 August 2007, 18:02 Sorry for the bone question, but am having trouble searching previous links/questions etc on s/n.Have tried the search option-no joy.Tried clicking on scoobypedia-nothing.Also,can you put a quick link on the front page so that i can put s/n as my home page-a link used to be there...Cheers! brybusa 03 August 2007, 14:06 I only get chance to browse the net at work and the new lay out takes longer to load, more scrolling around etc I dont want to read loads of ads, searchs are a long winded PITA and i havent time for it...much easier sites out there to use so i think my SN time is now done. Cheers, it was once a great site. ex-webby 03 August 2007, 14:45 Thanks brybusa. All the best Jaybird-UK 03 August 2007, 19:03 I only get chance to browse the net at work and the new lay out takes longer to load, more scrolling around etc I dont want to read loads of ads, searchs are a long winded PITA and i havent time for it...much easier sites out there to use so i think my SN time is now done. Cheers, it was once a great site. Im sorry to say and I dont mean to flame, but what a feeble collection of reasons for no longer visiting Scoobynet. 1. Longer to load I disagree, Scoobynet has in the past been rather laggy but after the recent optimisations the forum is a very speedy thing :) 2. Scrolling around Actually Scoobynet now is more user configurable then ever, left, centre or full screen options are there now. 3. Read loads of Ads I didnt like the side ad when it arrived, but now I visually ignore it, I dont stop to read the ads, neither should you have to. 4. Search is a PITA I still have SN search as well as Google search, you could too if you become a member :thumb: 5. Much easier sites to use Easier than what? this runs VB, one of the most easy and usable forums out there, nearly all the big forums use VB. The forum engine hasnt changed at all, just tweaked the look and feel. In my opinion SN is a far better place now then say several months ago when all we have was trolls, religious flamings and racism posts. Infractions seemed to have cleaned up this forum. At the end of the day its your choice, hope you find another net community worth reading :) SwissTony 03 August 2007, 19:28 well put sir :thumb: at the end of the day ( well it is nearly :D ), this site has had a few changes over the last months and apart from a select few, most people have just got on with it... I think what is important to remember that this site/forum is nothing without content.End of. Whether you like the changes or not, what counts is what we put into it ! The rest is just cosmetic. MaDaSS 03 August 2007, 20:40 I would like to agree but that would mean a positive post, and i cannot allow myself to be lowered to such depths as to post something so positive! LOL. Its rubbish and i dont like the fact its all about Subarus! ;) ScuuBdoo 12 August 2007, 03:34 when I click "Quick links"-"Today's posts", I get this message.... Please post in Bugs & Feature Requests. ScoobyChris290+ 27 September 2007, 01:24 Hi there newbie here, Loving ownership of my 94 WRX Jap Spec Wagon!!!! Picked it up on Sat. I was wondering if there was a way to have different areas for owners of different scoobies ie classic, newage etc. Like the way there is areas for ICE, Insurance etc. I think this would be benificial as it would be easier to narrow down where the info you are after would be. What do you think?? ex-webby 27 September 2007, 08:42 Hi Chris Welcome to scoobynet. In order to keep things in the correct places and make it easier for everyone to find everything, can I ask you to please post a thread in the "Bugs and Feature Requests" forum, and we'll take a look at this as soon as time allows?
