It's starting to come together now. I'd still like the site and forum navigation to be better integrated

sorry luminous, I thought I'd replied.

We're working on the space saving now, but its going happen gradually. I think the solution you propose is a little extreme, but some of the ideas are great.

Some slight improvements will happen today. :)

No worries, glad you like some of the ideas. I've noticed the improvements today :) Its all moving in the right direction :thumb:

I like the new look 'personal message board', perfect so i can get rid of what i dont want to see! Nice touch.
You have to make money, so the ads i will have to get used to, or get rid of them myself. Not to my liking of course.
Now i have centre view back how i want it (like i loved when you first did it, a Simon? ;) lol, i am happier.
I look forward to more changes if i can spot them easily! As i have a seive head and forget how it was so easily.
Much like the old Scotch video tape advert, can anyone remember the ad where it says, 'is this on the tele now?' and 5 seconds later, 'is this on the tele now?', well thats me and my brain! LOL.

Jeez, the general busy-ness and offensive colours are really starting to affect my usage of the forums. How would a partially-sighted person cope?

Look at PistonHeads.com :: Speed Matters (http://www.pistonheads.com) for an example of a successful site (sold to Haymarket now) with limited advertising, avatars and signatures. It's clean and functional.

Well i'm impressed with all the changes so far, and how they've been implemented

1) the piston heads forum is minute by comparrison to ScoobyNet, and is ranked some 1,300 places lower down the pecking order of forums on big boards.

2) their SITE is very successful though, and the SITE that you just sent me a link to has ON THAT PAGE ALONE :

ELEVEN banner adverts

Please try to get your facts straight before commenting in such an opinionated and cocky tone.

I'm all for criticism, as long as its a) constructive, b) offered without the cocky arrogance (we're on your side after all) and c) based on fact rather than fiction.

-

I think most of us know that it always seems to be those who shout in an opinionated tone that tend to be the ones that know nothing. The reason is that they prefer to shout, than to listen, so they never actually learn anything.

Anyway. Thanks to the overwhelming majority on your appreciation, or constructive criticism. I hope we're striking as close to the perfect balance as possible, but we'll keep at it :)

Maybe it's because I'm using Safari.

aah, ok. It may well be because of safari.

Do me a favour. If you have time, please post in bugs / features and we'll try to work it out :)

LOL

what i mean is.. I always used to spell it "bare with us", and got the micky taken out of me for ages, to the point where I acutally started doing it on purpose.

I was asking if anyone misses the old days when I used to spell it wrongly :)

Time to find me an ad blocker! lol.
Would sooner have none than avatars any day!

SirFozzalot - I would need to see them centralised first before i comment. A Test would be good i think.

You can switch them off in your user cp if you don't like them!! God you don't half like to moan don't you!!! :D

Centralised looks dreadful as the rest of the content is to the left. I tried it easrlier :D

Its getting a bit technicolor on the User ID pane :freak3:

Its times like this when I wish my monitor had colour controls :lol1:

Tempted to revert back to old skool SN, but the full width doesn't work on that anymore.

So Technicolor or tall-n'-thin, hmmm :wonder:

IMO, of course :)

You can turn avatars off, but not the model logo.. I'm guessing turning the one off turns them both off?

I quite like the cars, but not so keen on the logo bit as along with the extra stripy bit for members/members+ and any other logo it does start to look a bit

Perhaps the ability to turn off one or the other and vice versa, if you get what I mean....
i.e. user cp options:
View Avatars - Yes/No
View Logo's - Yes/No

Another thought, is the members' buttons.. like the Scoobynet Plus button, could not the member/members+ have their own button rather than the stripe? So that'd be different buttons for: Full members/ Orange Club/ Scoobynet+. Obviously there would have to be 3 versions of the Scoobynet+ button that incorporated the different permutations of membership for those that have more than one type.. I see it as (in descending order)
Scoobynet + Inc. Orange Club
Scoobynet + Inc. Full Membership
Scoobynet+
Orange Club
Full Membership

Thinking about it the model logo's could be incorporated in a button too perhaps..
I know it's all extra work, but I think it would look tidier.

Some rough and ready ideas.. obviously can be tarted up by someone who can use photoshop or whatever properly.

You can now turn the model logos off as well.

FYI : A grand total of 12 people have turned the scooby avatars off!

Hi Swampster

The thing is, the Full Member Upgrades, and ScoobyNet Plus membership are two totally different types of service, so it wouldn't be right to combine the badges.

The stripe will blend into the background in no time. I bet the "Full Member" blue icon, and coloured usernames stuck out at first, but you soon get used to them

The whole thing takes up a bit less room now as well. :)

Simon
