View Full Version : ScoobyNet - New Layout
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 10:28 sorry luminous, I thought I'd replied.
We're working on the space saving now, but its going happen gradually. I think the solution you propose is a little extreme, but some of the ideas are great.
Some slight improvements will happen today. :)

Please remember to press the right buttons today ;) :D
On the Home, Forum, Scoobynews etc the additional links they provide when you hover over them, can they become drop down links, then you can move the Members, Posts, and Mode buttons up alongside them to free up a few more pixels
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 11:36 I think we have to be careful not to go too extreme here. The header image has already been reduced considerably, and the menu in its current format is very useful, so I would ideally like to keep that the same format for now.
We're working on what's below that though.
Simon
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 11:46 New feature launched in response to your requests :
Personal Message Feeds. So you can now remove the text messages just above the main content by clicking the x next to each message.
Sonic' 25 July 2007, 11:47 Just noticed the new message feed and the X's next to them :D
they work fine too :)
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 11:48 PS. In addition, we've reduced the spacing down to 5 pixels for the top area elements, to give a bit more space, and more work will be done on this to improve further.
SwissTony 25 July 2007, 12:10 all works fine and dandy..just logged in and clicked some 'x' like a madman :D
soooper :thumb:
SwissTony 25 July 2007, 12:12 layout sizewise is nearly back to normal..just need to shoot that annoying git with the parrot and all will be well ;)
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 12:26 yep... ads are next priority
Should see some better ones for soon!
AndyC_772 25 July 2007, 12:29 He'd be OK if the ad didn't animate. I've no objection in principle to having the ads there, for all the reasons Shaun has patiently re-iterated time and again... BUT:
I don't like having my attention grabbed any more than having my hair grabbed (or anything else for that matter - at least, not when I'm at work!) - and it is an annoying distraction. Couldn't we reserve the animation for the banners top & bottom that are likely to spend most of their time scrolled off the screen anyway?
AllanP 25 July 2007, 12:40 New features look good, keep up the good work :thumb:
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 12:54 Hi Andy
Asking advertisers to produce adverts that don't catch people's eye is like asking you to only apply for jobs with low salaries. :D
Trust me though.. we actively filter out an extraordinary number of adverts for you.. such as :
Adverts that make noises
Adverts that redirect you to a new page before you can view the content.
Adverts that jump around until you click them
Adverts that you have to click before you can read what's under them
Adverts that have warnings on them, etc..
etc
etc
All of these adverts earn HUGE money by comparrison, and its literally a single click for us to turn them back on. But we keep things very carefully controlled.

And for that I thank you, and that is worthy alone of continuing paying for membership here :thumb:
Any site I go to that has those kind of adverts just makes me close my browser and go and do something else, I detest them with a vengeance
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 13:01 agreed. Me too. And I won't inflict anything on the membership that I'm not happy with myself.

And it works a treat, but are you adding that to the green one that I mentioned before?
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 13:47 oops! thank you :)
Granby 25 July 2007, 14:31 hmmm that's nice i've got no ads down the right hand side :thumb:

Bugger they have just come back :(
Odds on 25 July 2007, 14:34 No ads anywhere here :)
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 14:36 sorry about that guys.
We've just installed a MASSIVE midification to the site which has just dramatically reduced the server load. This should see things speed up and get us another step closer to switching search elements back on.
Should be back to normal now.
Odds on 25 July 2007, 14:46 Bloody hell! You wasn't lieing about it being quicker.
Super fast and without ads.... That will make alot of people happy. Nice one. :thumb:
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 14:55 Odds on
It isn't without ads. If you can't see ads, its because you're blocking them and causing us a significant problem at the same time.
I was going to say the ads are there for me:wonder:
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 14:59 We wouldn't last very long if they weren't Phil :D
LOL I bet that "little" Google cheque helps with Titans Bill
Odds on 25 July 2007, 15:02 :Suspiciou Thats wierd. There was ads this morning but I've just checked and Norton is (was) blocking them.
Apologies for that.
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 15:03 How odd???
Thanks VERY much for disabling that though. I really appreciate it.
Thanks for your support.
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 15:10 OK
Big update to the adverts. This will take a few days for the code to work out what kind of ads we're interested in, etc. So bear with it for a few days please :)
ex-webby 25 July 2007, 15:10 (who misses me spelling "bear with us" wrongly? :D)
Sonic' 25 July 2007, 15:20 Do you normally keep a bear with you :D
The ad's have gone rather strange, Im getting loan ads, vein cream ads etc LOL
Not that I need them of course ;)
Not really noticed any speed difference yet, as it started to go very fast yesterday for me
