i came accross and STi engine and Trans. I also came across an early 90's Legacy sedan. The legacy is an auto, i want to put the STi engine in the legacy. How much Fabrication, if any, is there going to be involved in this project. I plan on swapping both the engine and trans so it will be converted from auto to manual. Just wondering what kind of challenge this will be. I plan on doing this swap reguardless so please dont discourage me too much. Any help is appriciated. basically i want to know if this is going to be a bolt in or a very tough project. Thank you.

As far as I know the Legacy auto and manual shells were the same, so as far as the clutch goes it should just be a case of sourcing the bits, try Grade A:thumb:

You didn't say whether the new box was a 5 or a 6 speeder? There is a fiar amount of work involved in making the 6 speed fit a Legacy or Classic, but nothing insurmountable:thumb:

Is it this model Legacy?

If so keep us appraised of how you get on;)

In theory, none, it should just bolt in, using the same engine and gearbox mounts

I'm not so sure, others, on here and elsewhere, are of the opinion that the 6 speed casing will not physically fit within a Classic, and therefore a Legacy (same floor), transmission tunnel:wonder:

Not having done the conversion myself, I cannot say for sure either way:)

But don't let that stop you trying STi07, just keep us updated with photographs as you go;)

The 6 speed fits in a classic Impreza without any problem, direct bolt in job (I've done it)...just needs the right length prop from the Sti donor, or an auto funnily enough.

That's interesting to know:thumb:

Now all I have to do is find a 6 speed thats at a price MrsD will agree to spend:D

Any one got one for a quid:wonder:
