Nice bike, regardin kit well a good two piece leather suit i like the alpinestar tz1 or there is dainese i think its t-age.You could also go the power ranger suit and get a 1 piece but there a bit of a pain if its hot when your off the bike at say a coffee stop then you have to have it hanging around waist. Finally two piece textile suit which is good for the colder months and completely waterproof just not much of a pose with that on a blade though.
I have alpinestar 2 piece
texport 1 piece
alpinestar textile two piece
Gloves alpinestar sp2
Now you could either spend a small fortune with buyin new or save £££££ and look in fleabay which is what I did...
Hope this helps

I started with a mixture of both Alpinestars and Dainese kit but now find myself with just Alpinestars. I look like a bit of a walking advert but imo it's bloody good stuff.

Buy the best you can. Hein Gerike is good for all weather kit.

And if that's your first bike get yourself plenty of spare pants becasuse you will sh1t yourself when you open it up and a track day session otherwise i can't see you ever using the thing properly (no offense!)

No offence Craig but do you really think a 57 blade is the bike for you if you're not sure what type of jacket to buy?

It's been said a million times before but these bikes are not really for new riders. You'll either crash it or potter about on it scared to open the throttle on anything but a straight.

So what if he "potters about on the corners" and nails it on the straights, its his bike, he can do what he wants with it.

And as for crashing it, its the riders attitude that will be the deciding factor in that matter, doesnt matter if its a 400cc or a 1000cc bike.

Big bore sports bikes are so light and easily manageable nowadays there a doddle to ride until your really on the gas..im sure Craig knows this already.

Enjoy the bike mate...

get the best you can afford and make sure its got ce armour in it and if your budget stretches wich i think it might if you can afford a new blade get a back protecter.. gloves and boots are very important too as you dont want to do what my dad did and lose a toe in a accident ps he was on a cbr but a 56 plate 1100 blackbird... make sure the gear you get is the best you can afford as thats all thats stopping you and the ground making sweet love together.. helmets are the only thing where money doesn't matter as they all ahve to pass a standard but if you can find 1 get 1 that has passed the test in the states as there test is tougher than the 1 we have here meaning the helmuts safer... all the gear and no idea hey???. please be safe as its first time riders crashing causing all us old hands to have high premiums..

we will have to agree to disagree, a litre bike will get you to the next corner considerably faster than a 400 with less effort. a litre bike can pile on the speeds deceptively fast compared to a smaller capacity bike. doing an emergency stop at 30mph on your DAS is not comparable to realising you have overdone it a little down that short straight and that bend is approaching a lot faster than you were hoping, this is when lack of experience will bite you in the ass.

a little ham fisted on a litre bike could spit you off a lot easier than, a more forgiving, lower powered machine but as said his cash his choice.

take it steady and hopefully you will be posting here in 12 months telling us what morons us nanny state brigade are and how well you have progressed.

Of course I see your point mate.

However ive got lots of friends who got into bikes over recent years who have all bought big bikes as their first choice and had no problems whatsoever… in fact some of them are smoother/quicker riders than me despite me riding maybe 20 years longer than them…as you get a bit older you have to accept some people have more natural talent than others!

What im saying is that it IS over exaggerated that a newbie “will stack/crash/wont be around too long” if their fairly new to biking just because they have bought a “big bike”..That is rubbish and why I say, above all factors, the riders attitude will be the over riding factor whether they have an accident or not..

James, the most recent article I read stated the accident rates/stats have swung round since the late 90’s when the "old" boys where crashing everywhere, apparently the latest stats point towards fairly experienced riders who have been riding for a good few years, professional jobs , in their 30s , more than likely married with a child stuffing it on their own thru’ over confidence and familiarity.

Bit of both i guess. Went past this last week, literally minutes after it happened big shiney Duke, 49 year old rider, full race suit so properly protected but killed by a classic "didn't see you mate" accident. BBC NEWS | Scotland | Edinburgh and East | Motorcyclist killed in road crash (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/6895804.stm)

I think a bit of riding experience can help you watch for these but at the end of the day it is rare for a bike to be at fault in an accident with a car.

As for machine skills, i still say get on a trackday/instruction course or see if your local police force is doing a roadcraft course. It'll help you get the most from your bike. wouldn't want anyone scaring themselves that much that they don't trust the bike or ever want to use it properly (not by doing 150mph down the dual carriageway either)

I did think about this. I honestly thought abut getting a 600 and to be honest im still toying with the idea as i have till mid august to decide if i want to change to the 600.

i spent a good few months thinking about what to do before i placed my order, i also thought about buying a cheaper 600 used one incase i did stack it.... But i know in a short space of time il end up wanting a bigger bike and financially im in a position now do buy new. yes the 1000 will be quicker etc but it will also have the torque with it which the 600 doesnt have in the same throttle positions. but i know i will gain my "BIKE LEGS" far quicker on the 600... There are reasons for and against both options in my mind.

Just cos im not sure about what leathers to get doesnt mean im completely useless. I have a fair amount of common sense, im 28 year old pro with a family, and if i do crash im it pretty confident it wont be my silly driving thats at fault.....

*touch wood lol*

excellent choice of bike! :) http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/scooby222_2006/blades014.jpg

its all been said before so be careful- the blade does have the torque to pootle about on but even pootlings pretty quick, ive been riding for 13 years and still manage to have a moment now and again. my mate bought a blackbird as his first bike and after two weeks gave it a bit too much throttle turning out of a junction and ended up on his arse, but i do think that modern sports 600s encourage the banzai attitude and the new litre bikes are a lot easier than the old ones-a quick ride on my dads stage one tuned 96 blade soon reminded me of that!
as for kit get the best you can, ive got a dainese 2 piece i got ten years ago and have been down the road in twice and its still perfect-bar the 90s colour scheme :lol1: ive also got an arlen ness kangaroo leather race suit which is unbelievably comfy, either of those or alpinestars are top notch. gloves and boots id go with alpinestars too, just bought my 2nd pair of alpinestar boots after 13 years!
good luck and hope its sunny when you get it!

the blade is much nicer to ride than gixser with power delivery is smooth and the brakes are good aswell the diablo tyres on it are brill, but do wear quickly if you start pushing hard 1500 miles the best i had on my blade, on 3 set of diablos love that grip but £230 per set not cheap to run 5500 miles new set again at 6000miles bike as been rewaaly good
buy some crash bungs i did when it fell off the stand:mad: to late
buy a pipe to quite as standard got akarpovic on mine :thumb:

thought about a rear can but was wondering how the aftermarket scene was with the new underseat designs that are becoming more popular???

My main reason for the 1000 over the 600 is the 13 a month difference... To me it makes sense to go for the 1000...

Like I said I wasn't having a pop.

I'm sure you're a sensible bloke with your head screwed on right but IMHO a litre class superbike is not the best choice for cutting your teeth on.

You mention the fact that the blade has lots of torque as if that means you're less likely to stack it. I would actually suggest the opposite, especially in less than perfect conditions.

As mentioned it is your money and your choice. Whatever you buy I hope you enjoy it.

They do them but if you go aftermarket get ones with removeable baffles for MOT time. Also you'll need a Dynojet and maybe a Power Commander to remap the engine otherwise there is a good chance it will run lean. not what you want on a new bike! Probably set you back a grand in total!

i think with a 600 you know if your going fast and as said prev litre bikes go deceptively quick which can get you into serious bother!!!!
better off with the 600 m8 do you really need to go quicker than a 600...a 600 will waste a scoob no prob(dont talk about twisties ffs)

hone your skills first m8 its comparing it to someone who passed their driving test and jumping into a porsche or somit.

everybody crashes their bike do you want to crash your new fireblade start off with something not as hardcore then when you aquire the skills then move up.
remember reading something about buying a basic bike then learning to push it to its limits then when you can do that move up the ladder you want to be in full control of your bike not let the bike control you as i think the blade will do just my 2p worth iam sure some of that will be relevant lol
just remember when you come off it hurts alot and dont get 2 confident!!
good luck m8

come on guys dont knock this kid for getting a 1000cc bike if he wants one let him go and enjoy the darn thing .

some good comments to take on board are that 1000cc bikes are fast and you should be in control at all times dont ride the bike as fast as it will go cos frankly not many humans can actualy keeep up with modern day 1L bikes , this isent to say there not ridable iv got a k3 1000 and its fast but its not too fast just remmeber to stay in control at all times even get some training it is fun to lean to use these bikes or any bikes for that matter .
you stick to your original idea and get the 1000 you wont be dissapointed .:luxhello: :thumb:

All I will say on the subject is get the best equipment you can buy.. I did and it frankly saved my life.. I would recomend

Lid, for me is AVG although try as many as possible and make sure you have it fitted correctly by someone who knows what they are doing.
I would spent no less than £300

Leathers, stick with the big makes, try as many on as possible and consider a one piece.... I think they are safer. Again expect to spend at least £600 and make sure it has lots of back armour. Dianese, Alpinestars etc.. maybe at a push the good end of the RST stuff. My old leathers were £100 on ebay new so I was lucky...

Gloves, I was slightly limited on this but Joe Rocket worked really well, although I would probably go for the Spada Carbo as they are bike recomened and got a huge rating vs just about everything or the Alpinestars SP2 as already recomeneded, again try them on and make sure they have really good protection on the palms. I spent £90 on mine..

Boots, Try them on but stick to the big guns again Sidi, Oxtar, Alpinestarts maybe Puma, Mine were £250 when I got them...

Harpers Motorcycle Clothing, helmets, leathers, accessories (http://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/)
Bike Stop - Motorcycle Clothing & Accessories (http://www.bikestop.co.uk/)

Again make sure it all fits correctly and you always wear it, no going down the shops in jeans and no gloves just cuz its close. I am saying this cuz I am lucky see below.

After the mondeo had pulled out in front of me, I braked bike and I went down. Police Ambulance, 2 Smashed Shoulder Blades, 1 Broken Arm, 2 Broken Hands, Lost of broken ribs, and a lucky to be alive badge.....
Down side is I love biking.. and now I have a scooby. Soon I might even be able to lift my arm above my shoulders.. today I cant.

looks a sore one mate. I went for the 600RR.. Probably a touch safer than the 1000 in terms of my ability. I went for new as its cheaper for me. I work for Honda so 1 i get the bike cheap and 2 i get and incredibly cheap rate on finance on a PCP. Works out at £55 a month over 3 years....

After that i just change into a new bike... Bonus...

why do so many people have such blind brand loyalty. the best helmet is the one that fits like a glove, not the most expensive, or the one with the best label.

TBH i think you'll have more fun on it and be running rings round 1000's in no time.

Get a Honda track day booked with work. The advice on the best lid id correct, get the one that is comfy and fits the best not necessarily the most expensive.

Would still go for two piece leathers/fabric kit if ytou are going to get wet. Got a Hein Gericke jacket at Christmas and it has been fab. The expensive race boots often aren't waterproof so watch for that. The most popular seems to be SIDI Black Rain and there is a good reason, plus only 100 notes.

Get some pics of the bike up chap!

dont talk rubbish like a £90 nolan or schuberth is gonna be as well built and offer the same protection as a £450 arai . helmets have 2 pass stringent safety tests and arai and shoei pass them further and beyond , compared to the cheapo,s .
go with what you know and have tried , and ive crashed in arai,s , and ive seen and witnessed crashes with cheap lids and the results were plain to see . its your head !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
