My scoob is 11 years old, the last 2 i have noticed the vinyl dash fading from black(v. dark grey) to white.

Is there anything to refurbish this and bring back the colour?

Cheers
Dill

poorboys natrual look dressing. used this on mine last summer. good thick layer and let it soak in for 10 - 15 mins then take of the residue with a clean terry cloth. repeat if needed and then keep on top of it. the NLD will leave it nice and matt rather than shiney too. :thumb:

As above, any decent dressing that is able to penetrate the vinyl will help no end, although in really bad cases it may not be possible to fully restore the colour. Zymol Vinyl works really well in this respect, as it is designed to replace lost moisture content, but Poorboy's Natural Look and Werkstatt Satin Prot are also good choices. :)

dash needs replaced, i dont think the above advice is based on seeing what a faded classic dashboard looks like, they do infact turn compleatly white

no products except a proper dye/recolour will work

consider getting the dash flocked if you cant find a decent second hand replacement, i retrimmed mine in black alcantara style cloth :)

my old white dash is going to get flocked when i get a few mins spare to drop it off :D

sorry you're wrong there. it happened to mine last year and i brought it back with the poorboys natural look dressing as i said above. i considered getting it flocked by why go to all the hassle and cost of taking it out when a few days work of about 15 mins each day and a cost of about £10. give it a go first.

I will evetually, maybe get it flocked depending on cost.
I'll see when the full strip is planned.

Can someone post up some pics of the extent of this problem? I know this issue has come up before, be good to see just how bad it gets! :)

i do not think i`m wrong, as

1. i have experianced this 1st hand
2. so have my mates.....
3. i have seen and used more plastic dressings then i have had hot dinners

the dashboards actualy go white, no amount of dressing will "bring it back" as its WHITE

not grey, not semi black, how can a dressing change the colour white into the colour black, if yours was "brought back" then it was not really faded IMO

i have just taken a photo of my old dashboard, will upload when i get home, if poorboys stuff will "bring this back" i will pay you £100

for what its worth, dressings worked for me a bit at first, but the "whiteness" spreads, i tried recolouring my dash with black paint, and the white effect spread UNDERNEATH the paint!!!!

so now when i removed the dash to swap, i tried to remove a lot of the black paint to see how bad it had spread underneath and the whole thing is white.

looking forward to uploading these pictures :D

that's about how mine was. wish i'd taken a pic of it now. but i did get it back to normal with the poorboys.

i can take a pic of what the dash is like now as my mate now owns the car.

Does this mystical poorboys dressing include any colourant ??

its impossible for a dressing to change the colour of a plastic part, from white to black LOL (unless its full of colourant/dye)

nope none. i washed it with a strong soap liquid / water mix and then went over with white spirit. then built up layer after layer of the pb natural look dressing. good thick layer and left to soak in. then wipe off any excess and repeat again. it took a week of layering to get it back to normal.

I want to get a product for my dash in my classic. It is in good condition, but just want to give it some love basicially. It is not faded, its still grey. This Poorboys natural Look dressing, does it make the dash shiny?

I am so far please with the PB products I have used, I am willing to give this PB one ago.
