just wondered whats the best way to start ?

High revs, drop the clutch ?
little dabs then drop clutch ?

any help guys would be wicked

Also what sort of time would be respectable...no mods by the way

I hold high revs 6k ish, first click on handbrake, nearly smoke the clutch then dump it.

just back from doing my runs....great fun especially when they let you use the whole length of the runway !! GPS said 158, needle was off the dial. Didnt expect that ! !

the lights dont half take some getting used to, learnt quite quick tho.

Did three runs, beat 2 Mitsi GTO's and an evo 7. Quite chuffed really considering its my first time. Best run was 13.98. Some dude pitched up with a jet engine on a disabled buggy......mental !!!!

all in all most enjoyable

Side stepping off the clutch is the quickest way.:thumb:

With you, about 6K and slide your foot of the clutch sideways is best in most 4WD cars. My old Ford 4WD would launch the wifes cuddly toy from the dash storage just above the stereo and hit half way up the back seat!

Or.....about 6k......hand brake on....let the clutch bite but slip....then at the same time slip foot off the clutch and release hand brake....

Takes some getting used to...but dont forget quick change from 1st to 2nd.

Then book the old girl in for a re build.......lol

Ive sprinted my Sti and found 4k about right.Limits wheelspin and uses the power and torque for a rapid start.Change to 2nd on 6k.

I also start between 4k and 5k.. after slipping off the clutch - pedal to the metal ;) but often the clutch is slipping a bit too much - :D and then it smells ;)

no good dumping the clutch if its uprated, it will just bog down as soon as you start rolling.

hand brake on full, hold 5-6k sliping clutch then release handrake and clutch, depending how daft you are you can make boost while standing still by sliping the clutch enough.

If you keep revs to 4k,no handbrake!Drop clutch and floor it at the same time,the engine wont bog down as turbo is on the power sweet spot.Only have to short shift to 2nd to avoid going on the limiter.Limited wheelspin and max kick in the ass!Try it.

Me i get revs to 5k hold clutch just on bite as soon as lights go foot only needs to move a couple of mm and your there and i dont seem to get the jumping effect i used to get depends really alot on ya power ect and your gearing or if ya turbo slightly laggy, in my exsperience any way, i also have had some cars that i have got better times not trying to fly of the line as i just spin and bouce fist .5 or so..

if you have dccd where would you put thumb wheel? also thinking of launch control & antilag on my simtek ecu will this be useable:norty:

4500 revz 4 secs then slip the clutch and pound the accelerator change gear at 7200 this iz launch mode

I have a MY99 Type-R
leave the handbreak down
DCCD locked
piece of paper wadged in on the IC spray manual button
rev the throttle
drop the clutch and floor it at the same time whilst changing into 2nd and opening the DCCD
i have also mastered the art of changing gear extreamly fast.

I have only ever had 3 runs at the POD i got 2) 13.2's and 1) 13 flat
Will be back there in jan to try and break into the 12's

Launch control and ALS both set right of a lot of use...

DCCD about 1/2 way in the dry fully locked in the wet!

Double declutching is when changing down a gear on the move, declutch, out of old gear, foot up, blip throttle to match revs input shaft to output shaft, declutch, into new lower gear, foot up.....nothing to do with launching at all!

surelly holding the revs on maxumim torque gettin to the biting point then releasing the clutch as steady as you need to and flooring the accelerator = fastest possible launch.. oh and be ready for 2nd haha.
only launched my uk turbo final classic version a couple of times as i didnt know how low the stinking clutch was, just fitted exedy organic racing clutch and stainless equall length manifold, will be finding the exact best way to launch it soon as ive had a re map for the exhaust mod.
launched superbikes and grand prix 2 stroke 250 race bikes off the start many times though seen as ive raced them for 4 years lol.
i can even launch my 2.0 r reg mondeo faster than most faster cars with average drivers who either bog down or just wheelspin for 10 seconds... then bog down lol.

p.s impreza turbos rule!!!!!!! apart from new new pathetic hatchback traction controlled peice of sh**.

back when i had less power, i used to hold revs at 4k an drop the clutch. not completly i made sure revs didnt drop to much on launch.
Managed a 13.63 at 104.75. that was when i had about 60bhp less. When fuelings soryted an boost goes up hoping for about an 80bhp improvement.

Hoping for 12's this year. I'll launch at 5k now as everyone else is! might be a bit quicker

You can hold the revs at the rpm for max torque, but will there be enough exhaust gas flow for any boost - probably not, hence in a turo car the key is getting the turbo working (if possible) prior to getting off the clutch, the bigger the turbo the harder it is!

I know what you mean about racing faster cars though, the number of chavvy Nova's I wasted around Romford when I was working there, driving a 68bhp Seat Toledo TD was beyond belief, trouble is when I wasted them in the first 20 yards, they gave up, not knowing that was all I had - after that I had 2 gear shifts before 50mph!
