What a strange decision about the tyres after the dismal performance of Pirelli tyres last year! :wonder:
Decisions From The Wmsc Regarding The WRC
The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has announced its decisions regarding the future editions of the World Rally Championship.
A few months ago, Italian manufacturer Pirelli was chosen as single supplier of tyres to all four-wheel-drive cars in the World Rally Championship, starting with the 2008 season.
The council has now decided to also award Pirelli the tyre supply contract for the Junior Rally Championship, again starting in 2008.
French tyre manufacturer Michelin, who has been providing tyres to the World Rally and Junior Rally teams under the name BFGoodrich, will continue doing so for the remainder of the 2007 season. It has the most successful record of the WRC but will no longer be present in the sport following the multi-year contract granted to Pirelli.
Only private teams working with two-wheel-drive cars will be allowed to fit tyres coming form a chosen provider.
Fuel company Shell will be the sole supplier to the WRC from 2008 to 2010. No changes will be made to the current mixture of fuel until 2009, at which time a further-developed quality of biofuel will have to be introduced in order to reduce the total content of CO2 emissions by a greater amount.
