View Full Version : HOW OFTEN DO YOU CLEAN YOUR SCOOBY POLL?
L33_WRX 02 July 2007, 16:57 Are you obsessed, can't be bothered or paying someone else to do it??
With so many detailers and valet companies out there thought it would be good to see how many people pay someone and how many people diy
K18LLR 02 July 2007, 17:00 i get mine cleaned from a hand carwash every sunday costs £8, then i polish and wax it with autoglym/meguiars....
Triggaaar 02 July 2007, 19:55 Now that I've got mine right, I wouldn't let a local car wash near it.
Triggaaar 02 July 2007, 19:56 i get mine cleaned from a hand carwash every sundayLooks like you haven't voted yet, as no one has selected 'pay someone else'
L33_WRX 02 July 2007, 20:03 just think.. that same old sponge used on loads of other cars dragging grit across your paintwork
better than an automatic car wash but personally could never let em lose on mine
subaruian 02 July 2007, 20:59 wash mine twice a week polish it every month ive even washed it in the rain :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo: wouldnt let any car wash places near it not worth the risk:eek2:
newbiefreddy 02 July 2007, 21:16 think you could do with a fortnightly option weekly is almost imposible due to the weather at the moment
demonsurfer 02 July 2007, 21:32 wash mine weekly <even cheekly wash it at work > polish weekly aswell plus mine lives in the garage wife moans says that i spend more time with the car than i do with her
STIain 04 July 2007, 11:51 would not reccomend polishing your car every 1 or 2 weeks. 2-4 times a year max. wax as often as you like but not polish as you won't have any paint left.
ukdave 04 July 2007, 12:42 To be honest i dont think once a month hurts em mines been done more often than that lately though an have polished it regularly for the last 3yrs an its been ok.

doesnt seem to have hurt mine much.
mneame 04 July 2007, 13:38 it will depend what polish you use. not all "polishes" are that abraisive. If you was going at your car with t-cut, a pc or rotary with menz ip or pg every month then it's not going to take long for your paint to wear through. something like autoglym srp isn't that abraisive when used by hand imo.
i agree though that waxing / sealing / glazing more often is important rather than polishing. Get the paint corrected and then maintain it properly. will look loads better. :thumb:

put your car under halogen lights and have a look at all the swirls and cobwebbing. then get a quote to get the paint corrected by a reputable detailer. You won't be handing over your £8 every sunday after that! ;)
mneame 04 July 2007, 13:55 just something else to add. i think that there is a lot of cofusion that surrounds polishes and waxes. most polishes will only contain, if any, very little wax or sealant to protect the paint finish. yes you'll get a nice shine from them, that's what they are made to do, restore the paintwork. But a wax will protect the paint rather than correct it. waxes are the opposite to polish, they have, if any, very little polish in them to "cut" the paint finish.
if you don't want to spend a fortune or ages and just like your car to look clean, autoglym srp every now and then followed up with their extra gloss protection is a good way to start. you'll soon love the extra qualities from the egp that you'll be spending more time and £££ on top end products. i know i did and i haven't looked back since. i'm now onto menzerna for my polishes and zymol for my solid waxes and jeffs werkstatt for my liquid waxes. the difference is amazing.
it's even gone as far as to the point of where i am considering starting up my own valeting / detailing business.
richardg 04 July 2007, 14:48 usually wash it weekly, but clay/polish/wax 1-2 times a year.
OzzyWRX 05 July 2007, 07:18 weekly or more if the weathers good (I own a black car) and a layer of P21S every 2 weeks. Usually a clay and polish every 6 mths.
donnas roo 09 July 2007, 21:20 Clean & fully wax mine twice a week, detail it every 6 months, and diamond bright it three times a year.
AsianGunner 09 July 2007, 22:46 every ten days, i once didn't get to wash it for a month and it was painful seeing it that dirty!!! sad ain't i
Mr Footlong 09 July 2007, 22:47 Just looking at the poll results scare me. I am not even going to read the replies so far! I clean fluffy, at a push, 3 times a year. Only polished her once in 2 years. During the last hosepipe ban I didn't wash her at all for 1 entire year :).
I do mine every two weeks but you haven't got a category for that it's a big jump from 1 week to a month :lol1:
