Hi, been driving cars mostly sports for a good few years now and quite fancy a bike, how long would it take to pass my test and do you need lessons like a car or do you just do a course???? also after passing your test can you get any bike or are you limited?? and how much will all the training and tests cost??

thanks

hi there. your best bet if funds allow is doing the 'direct access' course. its a 4 day course which will allow you to ride any size bike without restriction.

it consisits of:

1st day - CBT (compulsory basic training) on a 125cc bike, a dead easy enjoyable day with no test at the end. You learn basic manoevers like emergency stop, u turns and then and a few hours riding on the road with a instructor following you on a radio.

2nd & 3rd day - 500cc bike - exactly as day one but on a 500cc bike.

4th day - the test, a 30-35 minute test and usually an hours riding with your instructor before it

ive just done mine and, not to big myself up, but i found it very easy.

hope that helps

iv just done mine 3 weeks ago and if you already drive a car then your 3 quarters there. i did 4 days but you can do more or less depending on how well you pick it up. there is a theory to do though so do that asap otherwise you cant book the practical test.. its not that hard just rememberb the life savers and you'l be fine. i got 3 minors on my test wich is pretty good going i ythink.. go on do it yopu'l wish you did it years ago..

cost wise, I've already done the CBT, so am doing 2 1/2 days plus test, for £430. This includes £10 extra to have the first half day on my own, to get used to having a clutch

I was going to do the restricted course and save money, right up to phoning the training co, then changed my mind!

also, maybe ask at a couple of local garages for recommendation on training schools
