Hi all,

I have an 03 WRX and am going to change the sound system in it cos its rubbish. I have a good idea of what I'm gona go for but first I want to know what is giving me the crap sound. Is it the head unit or the speakers? They're both factory fit.

I ask because I can't afford to change the head unit and all the speakers at the same time. Which one should I do first to give me better sound in the meantime, speakers or head unit?

I think I will go for Focal speakers all round and head unit -Alpine, I've had them in the past and been very impressed. Does anyone know what speakers will fit straight in to the original holes without cutting spacers etc? Part number would be great!!!

Any ideas would be great, thanks.

Both the HU and 'speakers are dire. The FAQ sticky could help with info.

It seems to be the opinion here to change the HU for the best effect, not sure as I changed the 'speakers first (then the HU).

I don't know of any 'speakers worth having which are a direct fit...

 

Change the headunit first, something like an Alpine cd player. The cleaner and clearer the sound quality from the headunit the better the speakers will sound. If you change the speakers first and still have a crap headunit the sound will still be crap as the speakers are only producing sound from the signal they are fed. You have to start at the source of the system and work your way through logically.

 

Hu first go for an Alpine the difference is incredible even with the original speakers
Start saving and put some Boston SL60s in the front.
